Yes, morphine does not work for everyone. I actually have it listed as an allergy now, since it does nothing for me, and i don't want to be given it ever again. Someone needs to contact the doctor so he can change the orders.

I know this seems easier said than done, but if you are upset and crying, it will only make u tense up and make the pain worse. Try to relax as much as possible.

I hope you have a restful, pain-free evening!

The bottom line is, you should be having your pain adequately controlled. It does not sound as if yours is being controlled very much at all. Stay on the nurse call button until the medications are changed to something that helps your pain.
So sorry that you are having the problem, but that sort of thing rarely happens, and it is too bad that it had to happen to you.
Take it from me, I am a nurse in a surgery unit.
If your pain is uncontrolled, the doctor needs to know this.
Hang in there, hon, and be persistent. Don't be frightened.

Wishing you all the best, Carol

I had a similar experience.  I didn't have a pump, but I kept asking to talk to someone about my meds because the pain wasn't controlled. The nurse avoided me and never came since it wasn't tiem for my next dose yet.  What I was wanting to say was that this stuff wasn't working and I needed something else.  It wasn't until I was sobbing in pain that someone finally listened to me.  I ended up getting a meds switch and a dose of a muscle relaxer because by that time I was all knotted up from clenching in pain.  Did the trick.  So I agree with the above posters who said keep asking until you get what you need and to relax your body as much as you can in the meantime.  I'm thinking of you- I know it's miserable, but yes, it will pass... ((((hugs))))

I'm sorry you're in so much pain.  I was not prepared for the level of pain that I experienced when I had my surgery.  In fact, the first 3 days were absolutely horrible.  I have a high tolerance for pain too, and I was just stunned at how painful it was.  Things REALLY started to look up for me at 5 days post op.  Hang in there and demand something for the pain!!  I hope you find relief soon!

I should not be reading these posts, I should not be reading these posts

I really have to stop coming and reading this stuff, my surgery is next month. I know what abdominal surgery is like, and I know what the gas pains are like and they can hurt where I thought I pulled a muscle in my shoulder trying to get out of the bed after the abdominal surgery, does it hurt YES.

Wondering if I should still take a heating pad with me

Ok calm down if you can. if the nurses won't listen to you get your cell phone out and call the surgeons answering service. Hopefully you have his office number programmed into your phone and you  will reach the answering service by cll his office number.

Ask for a call back from the oncall doctor. Tell him/her when they call you back about your unrelieved pain and ask for something stronger. They will call the nures station and order it for you.

Are you sure some of it isn't gas? Have you been up to walk at ll,or in too much overall pain?

Get a message to the doc then tomorrow you can complain to the nurse supervisor.

Hang in there and keep us posted,
Holly

P.s this may sound dumb but are you pushing the NURSE call button insted of the pain pump button when you are trying to reach the nurses? extreme pain can make you get confused...

I was thinking this too... The Dr. won't be too happy about getting a late night phone call from his patient in the hospital because the nurses aren't doing their jobs - so do it!!! Make sure he knoes EXACTLY how much pain you're in! Morphine didn't do much for me... oxycodone is my friend!

My heart is just breaking for you. As a nurse/nurse practitioner, I am saddened to hear you are not being cared for properly. Do this...pick up your hospital phone, call the hopital operator, and tell her to connect you to the NURSING SUPERVISOR. Tell the nursing supervisor all your complaints, and I promise you will get some relief. Also, tomorrow contact Patient Relations for that hospital, and give them a piece of your mind. Talk to the nurse manager for the unit as well. The good thing is it's about to be a shift change, so hopefully you will get a nurse who will show you a little more TLC. Let me know if you need more advice. Feel better soon. *Hugs*
