When would I know I need to go to hospital???
I've been in alot of pain got a lot of gas I walk and it doesn't help. I called the dr. office they say walk get my fluids in will help pain and gas. So what symptoms should I look out for as far as a leak bowel obstrubtion, say blood clot??? I feel a lil short of breath right now but hubby says thats from taking a warm shower. I blow the spirometer thing and I can move it so I shouldnt have pnemonia I don't think. It's just it seems I have a lot of pain and I want to know whats right and whats not. Oh as far as bowel obstruction, I thought that cause I Havent number 2 since before surgery. Is that normal??? My dr. office said get some baby food prunes and see if things start to move. Oh and one more thing is it normal for my period to start early because of surgery and it's totally heavy??? Kerry
Shortness of breath, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting are all symptoms of constipation. It took me 9 days after surgery to go... and I definitely had the pain and vomiting. I tried Milk of Magnesia... didn't do a thing. Finally I took about 4 oz of prune juice plus a couple oz of OJ (purely to improve taste) and within an hour I was feeling serious relief.
I hear folks taking GasX, which may or may not help. You just got out of surgery so expect to be in some pain, but it shouldn't excrutiating with your pain meds. Don't be shy taking them, if those aren't working, I'd get stronger ones from your doctor. Also, keep sipping water... keep walking.. repeat! My chest hurt afterwards too, it'll go away and each day that passes everything will lessen. As far as the pooper goes... I didn't relieve myself for a few days after due to me finally getting in enough fluids. Be careful though, never trust a fart...
Also, yes I spotted the few days after surgery, I beleive that's normal.
Good luck to you!

For a leak there are many symptoms and everyone is a bit different. For me I burped alot and could drink as much as I wanted despite reading I should have to sip. I also had a drain and could tell it was filling up the more I drank. Finally my body just felt strongly as though something was just wrong which is the only way I can explain it. With that being said however, even after I had multiple surgeries I still had pain. Pain is going to happen while you body heals. I dont have any medical advice for you just my experience.
