As a woman traveling alone to Mexico, same as I did, I can confidently tell you that Dr. Alvarez and his team were incredible. His staff picked me up from the airport in San Antonio, drove me to Eagle Pass where my hotel was... Picked me up the next morning and drove me over the border to the hospital. At the hospital I had my own private room, my own nurse from around 9am to 5pm and Dr. A came to check on me personally at least once or twice a day. Then when I was discharged they drove me back to San Antonio to stay at the hotel overnight before my flight the next day.

I had a GREAT experience with Dr. Alvarez. I won't push you one way or the other, do your research and decide what is best for you. Just though I'd give you the scoop on my experience.

Glad to see you're looking for advice and doing your research - both are important.  There is a lady in Rosarita near TJ who runs Grace Guest House.  Her name is Lana Humphries.  She has had several surgeries done in Mexico and takes care of patients there for a number of doctors.  She isn't invested in promoting any specific agenda, so she might be a good contact for you.  She has had some good and some bad experiences. 

Be sure to look at complication rates, that's very important.  I used Dr. Jaime Ponce de Leon in TJ and had an excellent surgery and excellent recovery with outstanding nursing care. He has done over 10,000 bariatric surgeries and has a very low complication rate.  At the same time, I still say - do your own investigating and make your best decision based on what you find out.  Good luck and God bless!
