Having to monitor my blood sugar again...

Gah, I am starting a lot of posts today LOL

So at my Nut visit I told her about the episodes of feeling kind of shaky and sleepy after taking in any carbs even my protein shake, if I drink it too fast and don't spread it out I start to feel like I can't even keep my eyes open and I feel kind of funky.

So now I have to keep a strict food diary noting the times this happen and what my blood sugar was like.

Anyone else start having blood sugar issues AFTER surgery? I had issues with my sugar while pregnant, but never while not pregnant.

As you know I am not post revision yet, but I've had some of those experiences since drastically reducing my carbs over the last couple of months. One day I was feeling fine and had actually just checked my blood sugar for the heck of it and it was like 85. I had a protein shake, that only has 4 g carbs (2 g sugar) and started feeling that shaky, funky feeling, so I checked it again and it was 107, so not abnormal or anything, but I am guessing I have what I am calling "carb sensitivity". Not a real medical issue persay, but just very sensitive to carbs sometimes. ?? Anxious to see if you have the same outcome/experience.

Also, I tried a new kind of protein shake that has a fast release protein and slow mixed together... I did not like the way it made me feel... very very shaky and out of sorts. Must have had something in it I didn't agree with. But I checked my blood sugar with that and it really didn't change much.

Good luck!

Amy

Ugh, I just had three crackers (high protein, low carb WITH cheese) and BAM shakey and yucky, took my sugar and sure enough it was 56. Took a glucose tablet (my NUT told me to) and felt better. I think the diary is going to be a good thing b/c it will really help me narrow down what causes this so I can completely avoid it.

Post an update when you figure out what is going on. Hopefully you will find out sooner than later. That would be horrible to be feeling that way.

Sorry you are experiencing this. I use Almond Milk (diamond brand unsweetened vanilla) and it only has 2 carbs in it. Might help keep the carbs down when you take your shakes.

Thanks! I actually make Almond Milk for my family (I am a little crazy about processed foods LOL), but I never really thought to use it in my protein drinks (not sure why, duh!). I think I will try it i the morning and see what happens! Thanks for the suggestion!
