just a little whine..

I am not bouncing back from this surgery as quickly as I had hoped. I had never had surgery so I really did not know what to expect to begin with, but boy...I am sooo tired all the time. Like I am seriously operating on maybe 20% the energy I had before. Last night I had some pretty intense pains in my R lower back and today in my front R L quadrant. I am hoping its not kidneys though that seems to be what it might be. I have been drinking well, so I just don't know. Will continue to drink well and try some cranberry juice.

So, I am due back to work in about a week. How I dread it. My job is not easy, it is physically and mentally demanding..and as tired as I get here at home I am worried.

I know/think that my protein intake or lack thereof has a TON to do with this, but it is what it is. I am forever trying new things to help...but until I find that magic formulation... I would just rather not puke for the time being.

Oh, and I promised I would not be one of THESE PEOPLE, but the scale has not moved in 4 days. Okay, I know it will...I know I am psyching myself out...but you know..that might just be the straw on my already crappy morning.

So, as the title says..just a whine, and I need someone that understands because my husband so obviously doen't.

Hey paige,
I am sorry you are having issues, hopefully they will get better with time. I only have a little energy too and I am not liking it. I can't do anything without feeling immense fatique. I can get my protein down thank God but I am so sick of it. I did try the Nectar brand to get away from the milky stuff. Its ok. I can drink it. I also have a funny symptom I don't know if it is related to my surgery or recovery or what but I am itching all over and my bottom lip is swollen and it hurts. I started yesterday and I cannot stop. Hopefully it will stop soon because it is really irritating. I just got a new battery for my scale so I hope I don't become a slave to the scale either. We shall see.

Rekeca,
If you're still taking pain meds, you may be having an allergic reaction. This is what happened to me when I had my hysterectomy 8 years ago. I found out I'm allergic to morphine when I woke up the morning after my surgery ready to rip my skin off from the itching. They immediately took my pain med pump away and switched me to something different. I suggest you call your Doc!!

Hang in there.  My doc sent me home with a liquid protien source called ProtiDiet.  THe stuff is asume.  You mix a batch of it in 8 oz's of water and it's like drinking crystal light and each one is 15Grams of protien.

I tried the mellon/kiwi last night and it was like a green jolley rancher in flavor.  Google it, you shoudl be able to find a source for it.

How many ounces of fluid and protien are you getting in?  Also carbs?  I didnt' start feeling well until I got carbs back in my diet.  I know a lot of folks on this board are carb sensitive but i would think in the first few weeks while you are healing up, the carbs plus protien would come in handy.

See if you can score some of that proti diet, it goes down real easy in your water.

Sorry you are having the problems. I found that increasing physical activity as much as your body will tolerate helps overcome fatigue and speed the recovery process. Make sure that going back to your job won't interfere with any restrictions your doctor may have on your activity. I had a 30 lifting limit on me that held me back from work for a few weeks. If you should need more leave, see if you can quality for Family Medcal Leave Act protected leave. Hope this helps.
