Pre-Ops Whatcha Eating
So I have to lose 10 lbs in the next 6 weeks. Completely doable but I love to hear what others are doing. Right now my NUT has me staying around 1500 calories a day (that's probably a 35-45% cut for me) exercising at least 40 min a day (that I've been doing) but staying more balanced, not as protein heavy right now. Still must get 60g a day though.
So other pre-ops how are you changing before the big day? Are you just waiting for the 2 weeks before (if your surgeon does that) or are you trying to change it up now? Would love to hear how others are doing it or have done it.
Thanks.

I am not sure if you are a pre or post op. But I had to lose 12.5 before surgery and here is what I did. AM Protein shake, AM snack Protein Bar, Lunch 3 oz chicken and large salad. Afternoon snack protein bar. PM meal 3oz chicken and all the veggies I could stuff in and lastly a protein bar for a evening snack. In addition to this I drank at least 64oz of water a day. Hope this helps. Good luck!
I'm a couple weeks out from surgery and i'm eating 1250 calories and then 5 days before surgery i'm on a liquid diet. But not to reduce weight nut/surgeon both say its to keep the liver as small as possible because during surgery its lifted because it rests right above the stomach.
but i have been trying to stay close to 1250 calories since june so its not to bad..
when i eat even a snack i incorparate protien and eat that first to get in the habit and trying to slowwww dowwwn so i chew better and take longer to eat.

I am trying to lose as much as possible before I hopefully have revision surgery (waiting on insurance). I am aiming for 1200 calories, no more than 10 g carbs per meal, and I don't really have a protein target, but by eating that many calories and so few carbs, I tend to usually get 75-100 g protein. I eat this way 90% of the time, but allow myself a day or so a weekend to eat something more carb, but try not to overdo it. So far, I have lost 25 lbs in 2 1/2 months...which isn't extraordinary or anything, but I'll take it! I am trying to just get it done this time. Preop/postop, it doesn't really matter, the quicker the better so then I can spend more time focusing on maintenance while I still have a good window of weightloss. I have no idea what my surgeon requires for presurgery diet....I am hoping if I lose enough before, I won't have to do the liquid diet very long, although, I will probably do at least 3 days liquids even if it isn't required...I want that liver shrunk and firm enough to handle easily.
Good luck to you on your weightloss journey!

Over the last 2 weeks I have changed my diet completely to be more healthy and active. I have cut out all the sugar and carbs. Doing this and slightly following the pre-op diet I have lost 15lbs in 2 weeks. The next two weeks I will be committed to the pre-op diet and hope to go to surgery under 300lbs. My highest weight was 347; I met my surgeon at 331; I am currently 315; and want to lose 15lbs before surgery!!! Good luck you can do it and its always best to start making the changes now and go for the ultimate goal, optimum health!!!
I did the South Beach diet to lose the 10 pounds and will continue doing it until the pre-surgery liquid diet. My diet looks like this:
B: two egg muffin cups (made with low fat cheese and veggies)
coffee w/ a splash of 1% milk
S: low fat string cheese
L: some sort of salad with lean protein/cheese
SF jello
S: celery with 1 tbsp natural peanut butter; maybe another string cheese if I'm still hungry
D: some sort of chicken/turkey/lean beef. We do a lot of grilling.
a non-starchy veggie
green salad
Now that I've 'officially'' lost the 10 pounds I'm starting to add a bit of fruit back in, which I really missed during Phase I. But no more than a piece or two a day. I also have baked sweet potato fries or a baked sweet potato with dinner a couple times a week too. I'm still avoiding sugar and flour pretty much entirely. It's been much easier than I thought it would be!

well I am 3 days into my 14 day LIQUID ONLY diet and I have not died like I thought I would!
I had protein shake for breaky and lunch and just had some sf jello for snack. Will have another shake for dinner or maybe I'll have some soup broth.
I sure wish my surgeon would allow the south beach diet to get ready for surgery because I love that eating plan with the chicken and string cheese and almonds!
But this way I am prepared for the post-op with my new tummy. I'm not weighing myself until right before surgery. Want to surprise myself.

My Nut recommended the South Beach Diet. I have been following it religiously for 11 days so far and have lost (drum roll please) 10 pounds!!! I have also been in the gym every single day, I do couch to 5K 4 days, weights3, and swim on my "light workout days"(2days)and take Sundays off.
A typical day goes as such...
B: LF Cottage cheese with cinnamon and Herbal tea, multivitamin
Gym-plenty of H20
S: String cheese, herbal tea
L:Tuna or chicken, with RF Mayo, tomato, and cheese wrapped in a romaine leaves-H2O
S: Turkey and 1 oz of RF cheese or SF Jello-herbal tea
D: Chicken or Fish with steamed Veggies-crystal light
I drink Yogi Slim Life Green Tea and it may just be a placebo thing but it really curbs my appetite and give me energy a plenty.

Hello! Well, I started at the end of May at 337 lbs. I had to lose 33 lbs before surgery. I'm now at 310 as of yesterday. When I had to kick it up a notch on weight loss, I started eating more cabbage and broccoli. I just make sure that I alternate protein shakes and non-starchy veggies every 2-3 hours. It works! Super fast weight loss! BTW I prefer not to eat boiled cabbage. I saute it in olive oil (3-4 tsp for a head) and some soy sauce. I will also add other items at times such as onions, green peppers, fresh tomatoes, mushrooms, garlic. ground turkey or lean ground pork or beef. DELICIOUS!! Just whatever your taste is. I also love to fix broccoli w/fresh tomatoes in olive oil and soy sauce. I hope this gives you some new ideas. I know sometimes food can get boring when you're trying to eat healthy!
