realistic goal?

I hope to be under 200 by April 1st of next year. We have a family cruise planned and I would like to feel comfy in a bathing suit =)

As of this morning I am 271 (though my scale weighs higher than the doctors office so really I am probably more like 268.)

So that would be about 70lbs in 6 months. I do not want to disapoint myself if that is not realistic, so I wanted some feedback.

I'd say shoot for it, it will motivate you to work that much harder.. and think, where ever you end up- you will have given it your all, and it will be far smaller than you are now :)

If you give it your all, you don't leave any room to second guess yourself when April comes!

It can be done. I dropped 104 in a little over seven months.with 76 lb drop in a little over 3 months after surgery. I'd definitely go for it! Happy crusin!

I think it's a realistic goal to work towards.  I'm hoping to lose about 80 lbs by six months out.

I know that I can only do so much to make that happen, because our bodies will do what they do when it comes to weight loss.  I can only be compliant with my surgeon's plan, exercise and do the things I'm supposed to do and hope that my body and metabolism cooperate.

I know everyone loses at their own rate, but I'm hoping to lose about 50 lbs in the first three months, and 30 more in the next three.  I definitely want to be at goal (down 100 pounds) by a year out.

Well that's the first big honeymoon period - 6 months, so I say that's a great goal.

You might want to do some research on how to make the best of the honeymoon period here on the forum. (You probably already did, but I'm a mom which makes me feel the need to state the obvious. ;-) )

That's about 12 lbs a month, 3 lbs a week - very doable even on a reqular diet.

Stick as closely as you can to your diet; and get in regular moderate exercise and you should do fine.

I think you can do it!  If you look at my ticker we have similar numbers.  My consult weight was about 275.  The morning of surgery (6/20) I was 256. Today is just over 3 months post-op and I am 214.4.  Even if you don't make it to 70lbs you will look way better and FEEL way better.   My advice is wait as long as you can before buying your new cruise wardrobe because it is too hard to guess what size you'll need.  It seems like a lot of people lose 100 pounds by the 6th month.  Thatseems astonishing to me!  I really try not to focus on numbers by a certain date.  Christmastime will be 6 months for me and I can't wait to see where I am by then.  Just do your best every day and you will be it a really happy place in April.

That's a very doable goal in 6 1/2 months.  I'm 8 months out, well under 200lbs, and still losing quite well -- 10ish pounds a month. I lost 79 lbs in the first 6 months postop, starting at 259. That's after losing 32lbs pre-op.  I'm also over 40.

Stick to your diet (protien, calories, water), exercise, take your vitamins and calcium, and SLEEP.  It's important to get adquate rest.

It depends....for me, I have not lost weight quite that quickly. Close, but not quite. I lost 34 lbs pre-op; and 80 pounds post op in 8 months. But I could not exercise until I was about 3 months out, and I'm a probably a bit older than you are...55 years old.

But I think it is a great goal, and one that you should feel pround to get even close to !!!
