OnQ Pain Pump? Anyone else have this?
My doc used this OnQ pump that has a little ball of local antisetic that is continously delivered over three days to a subcutanous catheiter that snakes around the surgery site and is inserted after surgery. I used barely any narcotics in the hospital and none at home using this thing.
I was pretty impressed. If you have surgery coming up, you should ask about it.
ON-Q PainBuster gets patients back to normal faster by automatically and continuously delivering a local anesthetic, to relieve post-op pain, through an antimicrobial (SilvaGard®) catheter.

A few months back had a few VSGrs w/ incision probs n healing using it some discussion on it....Glad you had no probs tho!! Alls I got was Lortab liquid...made me puke.. so I chucked it...and took the pain like a man...man...
may wanna do a OH search..."VSG OnQ" .here's Jewel's post on OnQ(she deactivated -movin across the pond):
Well, I'm 4 weeks post op today and the pain around the main incision (the incision itself is absolutely fine) has worsened since going back to work this past Monday.
I finally threw in the towel and went back to see the surgeon today, thinking he'd tell me I need to give the hernia repair that was done along with the VSG longer to heal (as well as a bruised liver). Weeeelllllll, turns out that not only have I done some muscle damage by over doing it this week, but that I also have pain from the On Q Pump that came out a week after the surgery. Huh? He explained that they are seeing cases where there is temporary nerve damage where the end of the line is placed in the tummy (guess they ensure the line ends right at the main incision site since that is where the most pain will be). It should heal around the 4th or 5th week, so I'm praying for a miracle next week! I need to start exercising!!!!!
So, if anyone else is experiencing the same thing and had an On Q Pump, then this may be the issue. Still best to consult your surgeon tho. I read online that there are tons of law suits going around on this thing but its for permanent damage to shoulder surgery patients.
Still no regrets! Loving my sleeve!

My husband and I both had On Q pumps when we had our VSGs. I cannot say enough about it. It doesn't do anything to help with gas pain, but it does control incisional pain nicely. We removed them 48 hours after surgery.
I am also a nurse who works at a children's hospital and we use them frequently. It's alot easier to get kids up and walking when their tummies don't hurt as much :)
I am so glad you had a good experience! I would definitely recommend using the On Q Pump or reading all the research on it, if you have doubts.
Best of luck to ya!

Yes, I pulled mine out the morning of the third day. I did hate lugging it around with me post op those three days but I honestly had little to no pain and took like three hits of the narcotic in the hospital. Mostly becasue the pain left over from the cathiter was like peeing razor blades. If it hadn't been for that, I probably wouldn't have taken any pain killer.
