I did not mention this till now because, well frankly I was afraid yall would think I have a bad surgeon and I honestly feel he is very competent...

but I had NO leak test. Shocked me! They only do it on RNY patients.

I've heard of some not getting them, but I had the leak test.  Stuff was nasty nasty nasty, but I felt better knowing nothing was slipping out!

I did not have a leak test after surgery.  They said he did it while I was under.  I had that same reaction, but everything else went so well I decided not to worry about it.

I had one the morning after surgery and had to pass before i could drink anything. It was a barium swallow test. Then i had another gastrogaffin(Sp?) test at my first follow up visit at my doctor's office, which was definitley not as nasty as the barium test at the hospital.

My doctor did it when I was under.  I never had to have one while awake.  From what I have read, I did not miss much.

I didn't have one but we had discussed it pre-surgery.  he does 2 during surgery and leaves a drain in for 10 days.  his experience had thought him this was sufficient.  He had worked at another COE back east where he did them he just had never caught a leak that way.  Mind you he had never had a leak so extrapolate from that what you will.

I had one the morning after my surgery. The x-ray tech said that the first fluid tasted like dishwashing liquid...he was right!

He had me drink a second liquid that was white. I do not know which one was the barium but, they were both pretty disgusting. After they finished the imaging, I threw up. I warned them that I was going to get sick but, they don't believe you till you start heaving. I never seen anyone move so fast! Glad they did do it though. You get to see your new tiny tummy. It looks pretty cool to watch the contrast move through it!

WHAT? Are you serious?!! My doctor does two leak test: 1) during the operation and 2) the typical "barium" test that you have afterwards. They do that for all WLS.

I don't understand your surgeon's reasoning but that would scare me. Perhaps he just did the one during the operation and that was it. Did you notice your urine being green a day or so after surgery? If so, that is evidence of the blue dye they use during the operation as a preliminary leak test.

Are you sure? I was so out of it (on pain meds) in the hospital that I had to really think if I had one or not....Then I remembered that yucky taste in my mouth! Realized I did have one! I also got to see my tiny sleeve in the x-ray wich was cool! While we are here, I noticed that some sleevers have drains and some don't. I did not have a drain, did you?
