Here is something that is very interesting........

For some reason there is a "High" number of nurses that have WLS and are on these forums.....maybe the highest percentage of any single  occupation.

I think the nurses are the ones that really bite there tongues sometimes..... You can see that they really know where the line is.....they give out just enough information before it would be deemed "medical advise" and are the first people to tell you to contact your doctor or surgeon.

I run into this all the time on dog forums, as well.  You get all kinds of questions that should be asked of a vet.  I'm a successful show breeder, and I live with 10+ (small) dogs at any given time.  I tend to do a fair amount of 'doctoring' myself, and I am a better than passable amateur diagnostician; having said  that, I routinely tell people 'get thee to a veterinarian.'   Significant pain, fever, vomitting, and diarhea whether in a person or a dog can all be precursors to serious health problems or even death.  They warrant the trouble and expense of  at least conversation with a medical professonal.

As an aside, nursing is a good paying, female dominated profession, still, if less so than in the past. I read a statistic not long ago that 79% of WLS patients are women. It stands to reason they would well represented amongst WLS patients. The Harvard Nurses study is one of the biggest, longest running, and most influential health studies in history.

one of us nurses "weighing in",   I agree Frisco.  We try to help without going to far.  Sometimes we cringe.  I do see a lot of helpful info but fevers, chest pain, leg pain abdominal pain, draining incisions, shortness of breath, call the doc.  The chest pain, shortness of breath call 911 then have a the ER call your doc!

Why are there lots of nurses here?  We have good insurance tohelp us solve the problem of years of 12 hour night shifts drinking reg coke every few hours to stay awake and wash down vending machine junk food cause the cafeteria is closed at night, fast food on the way to work so we can get an extra 30 minutes of sleep, putting everybody else first cause they need us and it feels so good to help.  And the party girl nights off and that's just me, maybe the others have different stories.  I'm just lucky to be here on the other side of vsg hoping I'm not going too far trying to help.

I'm also hoping I'm not making you and the other vsg vets cringe too much.

I'm not offended at all.

I'm sure there is middle ground we can find.

Cheers.
