Hi guys,

I wanted to let you all know about my stall which seems to have started last week (classic 3rd week stall). I'm down to 286 which is 21 lbs lost since surgery/ 45 lost since Consult). In four days, I will be one month post op! I am going back to the full liquid diet until I have lost  twenty pounds. I have a special day coming up soon and need to get these pants on. Anyhow so my post is to ask if anyone thinks going back to the liquid diet is an awful idea.  I'm thinking only about a week or two. I'll get all my protein and vitamins and honestly soft foods are still kicking my butt. I am working out and sticking to the plan with more protein than anything but if someone has a better idea please let me know. Thanks OH

The only real correct answer would be to talk to your surgeon and get his blessing.....

That said.... you should be fine but it doesn't seem necessary to me and your Yo-Yo dieting again.....

I'd just keep your protein shakes up and eat 1oz. protein meals. Your calories will be in the 300-400 cal range.

Well, first, that's a great loss. Congratulations!

Lots of people do the liquid diet thing. My first concern is that we not get in the habit of trying extreme measures when we stall - we're trying to build new lifelong habits and that's very much of our old habit of extreme dieting followed typically by a behavioral backlash when it ends. Might be better to buy a pair of bigger pants.

My other concern is taking care of your body. If your liquid diet includes protein supplements and you're taking all your vitamins, you're probably OK in that regard.

Honestly, I still drink two shakes a day at 6 months out because my tummy is so tiny and that's the easiestway to get my protein in and still leave time to get in my fluids. I don't worry about it because I expect it to be part of my lifelong habits, though I can adjust as needed.

Highest weight: 335 lbs, BMI 50.9
Pre-op weight: 319 lbs, BMI 48.5
Current range: 140-144, BMI 21.3 - 22

175+ lbs lost, maintaining since February 2012

You shouldn't have an issue with this if you're meeting your protein and water goals.

My doctor recommends liquids for 2 weeks followed by pureed foods for 2 weeks. I extended both to 3 weeks because I wasn't hungry and the weight was really falling off. My wife was concerned about me extending the liquid stage and checked with my doctor. He said it was fine.

Good luck,
George

I don't think it's the best idea.  I think changing behaviors is what the successful vsg'ers in the group had to contend with.  the idea of going extreme so early out seems like a step backward, also, whatever your metabolism needs to do after you've punched it in the gut so recently, with this surgery, you should just let it do.  this early out it is all a learning curve so you could be stalling yourself more, who is to know.  but the behavior is not forward moving.  i say let your body do what it wants right now, in it's healing stages. Most folks up their intake when they stall, not go backwards. My advice would be to stay on the straight and narrow. I'm not really sure how much difference one size pants would make anyhow, in appearance, unless you need it psychologically. Hope this helps.
