I'm starting to plan my Thankgiving Dinner.  Of course I will be making all the standard for everyone else...Now I need to think of what to make for me.  This will be my first major holiday for me post-op, so I need to be prepared.

Can all the vets pls share there ideas..

thanks

Jane

Maybe not do the standard for everyone else? Standard Thanksgiving meal of literally stuffing yourself with carbs is pretty unhealthy. My partner and I now celebrate a "normal meal" Thanksgiving, where we focus more on our time together than the meal.

I plan on starting with turkey. Just turkey. Then maybe coffee with cream for dessert. But then, I'm not cooking this year. I really can't think of anything else on our family's traditional menu for me to eat. It's all sugar and carbs. I'll sit by my really skinny cousin-in-law. She never eats much so maybe no one will pay any attention to us. I have to remind myself that just because I always ate beyond all reason, not everyone does. And I don't have to, either.

Hi.  I am new here, but was just thinking of your question....I am still on my stage II post-op  LOL...but could you have like some squash and cranberry sauce, maybe make a peice of fish?   just a thought....are you eating like basically all regular foods now?  I cannot wait, to bite into some fish. I wouldn't suggest eating turkey (even if it is thanksgiving) I am  a lacto-vegetarian....No other flesh than, fish/henceforth my great suggestion  : )     Well, just a thought, maybe you will like it, maybe not?  anyhow, have yourself a happy, healthy time.

Ok so I just posted this as a separate post then saw your post.  I plan on making this for Thanksgiving as desert.  I will probably have some turkey and some vegetables and this yummy treat for desert.
                                                 Creamy Pumpkin Mousse

1 can (16 ounces) solid pack pure pumpkin
                                1 package (6oz.) instant sugar-free vanilla pudding
                                                     1/4 cup skim-fat free milk
                                                             1 tsp cinnamon
2 cups frozen fat free and low sugar free topping, thawed

1.  In a bowl, use an electric mixer on medium speed to beat the pumpkin, pudding mix, milk, and cinnamon.

2. Fold in whipped topping until thoroughly blended then spoon into serving bowl.  I like to sprinkle a bit of cinnamon on top because it looks pretty. Cover loosely and chill until ready to serve.

I have thought about this already and figured I would basically be eating turkey and green beans (not the casserole)

I can't think of anything else worth eating.

This is my first post surgery Thanksgiving, too. I am cooking, as I do pretty much every day.
I also cook at my coffee shop, all day. I love to cook, and we have a very busy place (thank goodness!). I am surrounded every day with baked goods and all kinds of food. I bring food to work that I plan on eating, so the choice is already made.
Just because you are around it you don't have to eat it!
If you are cooking, include some veggies (I am doing green beans with almonds and roasted brussel sprouts).  I think the dessert previously posted sounds easy and good. If you are going to someone's house, take a dish or two that is sleeve friendly. I will have turkey, the green beans with almonds and a spoon of stuffing.
I am also planning on making my traditional meal and then eating what I can. I am not so worried about being around it all. I will be busy preparing it, then I put out my small plate to help portion, and enjoy my family~this is one of their favorite days and I am not going to change that.
Have a plan and don't be stressed! You can do this!!

agree with vacation lover....just make sure you record every bite in your tracker - that will keep me accountable throughout the day...my big plan is to not graze all day while I am cooking. it is easy to taste along the way - if I do that I will count it as my mid day snack. my food plan is to eat 2 oz turkey w/ a little gravy, and a bite of green bean casserole (with as small portion we eat - it isn't bad at all!) maybe a bite of mashed potatoes - if there is room. I might make that pumpkin mousse that was recommended - they make mini fillo cups you can put it in that are only 3 carbs. could be a nice dessert for everyone!
