Couponing To Save $$$ On Groceries And Homegoods???

Crunchy As Can Be

I've seen the show Extreme Couponing, and I know that as a kid my mom used to do it to some degree to save money on groceries. While I know that I can't dedicate the amount of time the people on the TV program do on couponing, I want to try to get into it more to save some money when I can.

I feel kind of stupid, but aside from clipping and looking for sales on the items I have a coupon for, what tricks do any of you couponers do to help it all work out and save some money for your household at the same time?

If I remember right, there is a member on here that says she does it.  I believe her username is USAF Wife?  I'm going to be totally embarrassed if I am wrong.  I don't mean to volunteer her, but she might be of some assistance to you :).

Google KrazyCouponLady.com

The site has amazing tips on how to get started and has deals at your local stores in conjunction with your sunday paper ads... in addition to "retail therapy" finds... awesome!

She's on facebook too, so I see her stuff daily... she's helped me on more than one occasion!

Good Luck!

I do believe that Tiff coupons, to agree with the above poster.. I have found that coupons are almost never for fresh meat/cheese/veggies and that is mostly what I buy.. I do get coupons for milk, but that is rare. I hate that all the coupons I come across are for things that I wouldn't want to feed my family- if I believed in frozen dinners and ice cream I don't think I would ever pay full price again, lmao...

I am still loving life with my sleeve! Been maintaining at or below goal for over 4 years!

I've been couponing about 3 years and I haven't paid for toothpaste, shampoo or soap in that whole time. OK I do pay a little for the shampoo I use but not as much as regular price. The family gets free shampoo, deodorant, body wash, razors, etc., and a lot of cleaning supplies/household items so I can have more money to spend on the fresh cheese, meat etc.

Check out couponmom.com for lists for stores near you and also hotcouponworld.com. There's a lot of sites out there and it takes a lot of reading and learning at first, but it's very fun and useful after you get the hang of it. I don't spend near the amount of time those crazies on extreme couponing do, I don't dumpster dive and I don't feel the need for 1,892 rolls of toilet paper at any given time. But I never pay full price for many things we buy.

I'm a crazy couponer LOL, BUT I DO NOT swipe shelves clean nor do I stockpile things we will NOT use within 12 months.

Are you on Facebook???

It's so much easier if you are on FB, and can get up to the minute deals. SouthernSavers.com The Adventures of Couponista HIp2Save Here's the Deal are all the Blogs/Pages I follow on Facebook. . . Oh and MOJO savings. I also get all the freebies, samples that are posted.

I use iheartwalgreens.com to do price matchups, coupons, and use the stacking coupons with Walgreen coupons, weekly sales and then a manufacturer coupon to get the best deals.

We eat very little pre-packaged foods. I do use flavored rice (rice a roni) and stovetop stuffing because no matter how hard I try, I can't replicate those flavors LOL. I only buy fresh and frozen veggies, but they have coupons for frozen veggies.  We don't eat canned veggies with the except of 2 brands of beans that I can not make homemade no matter how hard I try. We do have frozen pizza nights, and on occasion I'll buy one of those frozen Stouffer's lasagnas and crap food like that for busy nights.

I mainly coupon on household items and hygiene items. I also order bulk coupons from ebay and The coupon clippers (clipping service here in Florida) for major purchases. I do a week to 2 weeks out shopping planned trips between Winn Dixie, Publix and Walgreens. I only do a big grocery shop once a month at our commissary.

Right now, my stockpile is very heavy and I won't be couponing to any large degree this month. But, I swear by couponing, and typically do not buy things unless I have a coupon for it.

The way to get meat coupons is to look for buy 3 Heinz/French's or Kraft products save $XX on fresh meat or produce coupons. The key to that is to find the cheapest condiment like French's worchestershire sauce is around $0.89-$0.96 a bottle, I will order coupons for $0.45-$0.75 off 1 for 10-15 French's products or whatever product my stockpile needs, and then I'll stock my shelves in my pantry with that condiment, dressing, mustard, etc etc. That way, I can stock my pantry with a needed an item, plus save around $10-$20 on meat/produce. It really just depends on what my stockpile needs.

I should add that we donate monthly to our local food pantry, and I make care packages  for the men and women overseas with a lot of my couponing so I coupon not only for my family, but others.

Wow-- that's a lot of GREAT information. Thank you so much for taking the time to write it all out and I'm sorry I'm so late in responding to it.

I'll investigate some of the stuff you told me-- I really appreciate the help!

And I love that you make donations to food pantries and to the troops overseas... what a wonderful way to give back to the community.
