How soon were you able to drive after surgery?

I drove as soon as I got back (surgery in Mexico)  although I did get dizzy once or twice which was scary.  I parked and laid in the car until I felt a little better!

I drove today for the first time, 10 days out . No way I could have driven within the first week. I stopped pain meds on day 5, but the soreness and pain would have been hard to maneuver with. Also remember that anasthesia keeps you a little fuzzy for a while. Good luck, but be careful!

I waited 2.5 weeks. I had such nasty ab pain that I wasn't comfortable driving so hubby had to do it all.

If you're like me, you'll be fine to drive by 12/23. I left the hospital the day after surgery, and my only dose of pain meds was on the day of surgery. Felt no need for them after that. Don't tell anyone, but I drove myself most of the way home the day after surgery. My mom initially took the wheel, but since I know the roads far better and am not a huge fan of her driving style, I told her to pull over and let me drive, and felt fine driving. Are you having surgery at CPMC? There is a shuttle bus between the hospital and the hotel, and airport transfers (for SFO and OAK)via super shuttle are relatively cheap. SF is easy to get around without a car, in case you want to reconsider renting at the airport. We have a great doc! Hope your recovery is as easy as mine was.

I wish I was having my surger in San Francisco, everything would've been much easier as far as transportation. But instead my insurance only fully covers the San Jose facility where Dr. Jossart performs surgery once a month so I have to go there.

I hope  I have an easy recovery too. I'm fairly young (early 30s) and dont really have any medical issues. This will be my first time in a hospital as a patient since I was born! haha. I've overeducated myself about the process and think I know what to anticipate. And I've only heard great things about Dr. Jossart, I'm so lucky to be able to get in with him and have my insurance pay.
