oh honey, I was sleeved on monday and I know exactly how you feel..today I feel better, each day is better..yesterday was really rough on me, as it was the first day I had a bm. keep taking your pain meds routinely even if you think you dont need them.
Smells have been an issue with me too, breathe out before you drink...try not to smell while drinking.
I know that today I had to start with protein, it took me 15 min before I could even drink becz I was expecting the worse
i do find myself thinking about food freq.  its crazy even tho the smells of my families food makes me sick, my favorites right now are crystl light and water, on my full liquids I can have some sf pudding and sf yogurt that doesnt have any chunks in it.
I bought the unjury protein powders all the flavors and as of right now I have gotten in some protein while typing...
just adhere to what all the ones before us are saying...it does get easier and better...
I am hanging on to that!!!!
stay strong, next year this time we will be laughing about this!!!!
merry xmas to you

First of all, I'm sorry you're feeling rough. I remember, and I do understand EXACTLY how you are feeling.

That said, we should have a form for posters in the first week or two to just check off the reasons they hate this, and post. We go in excited about the long term impact of the sleeve - the loss, getting healthy - and we come out kicked in the butt by the short term impact of the major surgery we just had - weakness, diarrhea, lack of appetite, pain & having to get fluids down through a traumatized and just starting to heal stomach.

The good news, over the next days and weeks the short term impact lessens day by day and you start around the 2 week to 1 1/2 month mark (depending on your body) to really start to see the long term impact. The bad news - you just have to work your way through the short term healing to get there.

Many of us (probably a majority) had a day or even a week or two where we were really questioning our sanity in having this surgery. Just remind yourself these short term battles are NOT how life is going to be with your sleeve - they're how life is going to be recovering from major surgery, and that's not forever.

Sip, sip, hang in there and it will get better.

You'll feel better soon, I promise.  The clear liquid phase is a drag.  I didn't do much protein at all.  It may not sound great, but I drank regular fruit juice cut with water 50/50.  You do need some sugar, but I was afraid of too much.  SF Popsicles and jello were also great.  Liquid stool is normal now, but on the bright side once I got onto regular food constipation is a constant companion.  It was about a week before I could sleep properly.  I stopped napping at that point.  You aren't losing ground, you've just had major surgery and a annoying as it seems your body is making big adjustments.  The process of healing requires a lot of energy, that's why you feel so drained.  Also the rapid weight loss causes a big hormone release from the fat cells, which caused me to feel kind of mopey weepy pms-y at about the 6 to 10 day phase.  Once I got onto full liquids and cream soups, yogurt and puddings with added protein powder and spices from my kitchen added to the canned soups I felt a lot better.  I love sweets, but I couldn't wait to eat something that was savory.  The scents of the protein powders can be awful.  I had to mix away from my face and make sure not to inhale, kind of like in chem lab.  Six months out I still use them daily and it doesn't bother me anymore.  Hang in there just a little longer, it will get better.  I almost forgot to say walk walk walk!  I'm waiting to hear your first NSV- I know its coming soon!

First off, I love you because you are so honest!  I was feeling the same way in the hospital.  I think that's where my dehydration started because my pee has been a dark concentrated yellow ever since.  I could not drink protein shakes.  Everything was just nasty, even jello and pudding.  I'm still having bright yellow diarrhea although it's not daily anymore.
I can't drink plain water anymore.  I just started drinking warm tea.  Warm tea is the only thing that feels good going down.
I was really worried about my dehydration because I do get dizzy standing up and my skin doesn't bounce back as quickly as it used to.  I would pee once in the morning and once before I went to bed.  I read that severe dehyration comes with a fever.  I haven't got a fever yet so I'm assuming I'm still good.
I honestly don't know how much I'm drinking, maybe 24 oz at 3 1/2 weeks out.  I'm trying.  If I get 40 grams of protein in a day, I'm really excited about that.  I'm sure it gets easier with time.

Jello & Popsicles saved me! I still have trouble with protein drinks and I am just over 5 weeks out. My first week when I was asked how I was feeling, I said " I am feeling like I should have done Weigh****chers instead." :) Today - I love my sleeve! I still have trouble getting all my water in but I work on it daily. You will get where I am, it will just take some time. When you start seeing the pounds drop off and you are able to eat something other than jello, it will all come together for you.

Popcicles are a good way to stay hydrated also, I found that for some reason they went down very easy, try it.

Thanks for posting this...I had my surgery on Tuesday and have been feeling tired and achy all day. I'm on a clear liquid diet, with protein shakes allowed, and can't wait to start full liquids...So tired of water and protein right now. Did have some Campbell's Chicken noodle soup last night (without the chicken or noodles) and that was a wonderful reprieve. Keep trying different things. You'll find something that you can live with until you're onto the next stage...Good Luck!!

Sip.  Constantly.  All day.

Do it.

Does an hour go by where you didn't drink something?  You cannot afford to get dehydrated - you won't heal, and you will go back to the hospital.

It'll get a lot easier soon after the swelling goes down - but staying hydrated will accelerate your healing process.
