Revision from lap band to sleeve gone wrong
i was scheduled to have my revision done on 12/21/11. When the surgeon went in to remove the the lap band ....He said that the lap band had failed!!! He said that it had erosion's and the port was infected, and i also had alot of scar tissues and adhesion's.....He removed the band and cleaned out all of the scar tissues and adhesion's and said that my stomach was in flamed and i had to wait 3 months before i could get the sleeve because it would have been a health risk for me if he would have done the sleeve...SO I LEFT THE HOSPITAL WITH NO SLEEVE..........
I think God for my surgeon Dr. Jawad for taking the time ti fixed me up from that stupid lap band...I had no idea all of that was going on inside of me..

Well thank god you went in for surgery and they found out! I don't think the post is titled right though I thought someone messed up your sleeve! I'm glad you are okay now.
This is why I always try to tell people that while the band is always said to be "reversible" it really isn't, it is removable but the damage it can do is not always reversible. I am sorry you went though that. My surgeon does not ever do a removal and sleeve in the same surgery, even if there are no real complications during the removal b/c the risk of complications is lower if you give yourself time to heal.
Seems like your post should read "Revision from lap band to sleeve saved my life"
Glad that your surgeon fixed everything and you seem to doing fine....you will be sleeved before you know it!

Good question -
They might be protected by informed consent. That is, if they provide you with accurate warnings, and are honest with what might happen, and you sign off on accepting those risks associated with their device, they have a great deal of protection. If they hide the risks, that's quite different.
It's like cigarettes these days - now that the packs clearly state "These will eventually give you cancer, you moron, and will make kissing you seem like licking an ashtray" it's nearly impossible for a new/young smoker to sue a tobacco company and win.
I'm just guessing though. Maybe there are class-action lawsuits for some.
