I thought this article was interesting, and thought that the size 12 model was beautiful!
Anybody else give thought to the topic of "average" models being so much smaller than the average size of most people in this country?

I agree that she is very beautiful. I feel lucky that I am able to find beauty even in things that aren't obviously beautiful to everyone else. Everyone has aspects of beauty even if they don't realize it!!
I dislike that "plus size models" are really size 10 or 12. I used to know one... and she said they took plus size clothes and pinned them tight around her size 12 body. Otherwise they were far too big for her. I wonder if Lane Bryant or other major plus size retailers do that? Or if their models are really size 16 or 20 or whatever. It's so hard to tell in print media anymore.
Find your own beauty everyone! You have it!

I thought the article was interesting and the models beautiful I do think plus size models should be plus size, but they never really have been.
The article says that 20 years ago plus size models were 12 to 18 and now they're 6 to 12. What that ignores is that with vanity sizing a person who wore a 12 twenty years ago would wear a 6 now.
So they're basically the same size - much smaller than the women they market to. This is also true of regular size models - waaaay smaller than the women they're supposed to reach. I guess we are supposed to all feel equally bad about our bodies...and it works!

Yes, Lane Bryant and Avenue do this.
I once bought a dress online at Avenue, and it looked terrible on me when I tried it on. I returned it to the store and joked with the sales lady, "It looked so much better on the model than on me."
She replied, "Well, you know the online models are all size 12."
Hmmm... yeah, you wouldn't want any actual FAT people modeling your clothes that are made for FAT people, so the FAT people would know what they actually look like, would you? Geez!

Well they have a product to sell and that product looks better on a smaller body. i never believed this but when i look at a plus sized model and a regular model model the same outfit on Hsn/qvc i truly believe that. I'm almost ore likely to buy the dress when i don't see a plus sized model show it. i want to believe it will look on me like it does on a regular sized model. Flame me if you want but it's always been the way i see it and i have to believe I'm not the only one. we talk a lot about body dysmorpia on these boards i.e. not believing we are smaller but not believing we are bigger at 250lbs also applies. flame away. I wear i could not have seen what i looked like. I just believed when faced with the number on the scale that i carried it better than anyone else. I would see other people who said they weighed what did on TV and swear i did not look anything like that. Ah the joys of rose colored specs.
