I lost weight pre surgery as per the diet plans the health insurance nutritionist put me on. Now they don't want to cover me because I drop below 41 Bmi and I'm at 39.  Go figure

Do you have any co-morbidities: sleep apnea, high blood pressure, diabetes, etc?

no, just rheumatoid arthritis and they said that didnt count. I asked themif it was going to be a problem if I lost weight and they said no it goes by my first visit to the doctor. I've only dropped 10 pound . just a little frustrated, Whatever happens happens and maybe there a bigger picture I'm not seeing..

Go get your joints xrayed. I have Sjogren's Syndrome which wasn't considered a co-morbity, but the osteo-arthritis in my hip in the x-ray from my Rhuemy was enough.

Sorry, but that is total BS! I started out at a 41 BMI, but had to lose weight per surgeon's orders to have the surgery. I was down to a 38 BMI on the day of surgery. I know my insurance is different because it's Kaiser, but still you need to hold them to the first weight on your initial visit at the doctor's office. I suggest you begin the appeal and have your surgeon's office help you out.

I agree with Kairk. Most insurance companies hold to your original weight at the initial doctor weigh in. Your surgeon's office should be able to help with an appeal, after all they are the ones making money on this surgery so they should be willing to work a little for it.

Best wishes!

Next time you go to the doctor's put some weights in your pockets. Definitely appeal as they should take your initial weight.
