I have never suffered from acid reflux, at least not until now.  I have been eating healthy,
for the most part. while waiting for my surgeon appointment.  Recently it seems that
some foods give me a lot of stomach acid. I can't seem to pinpoint which foods.  When
it happens the burning in my esophagus is almost unbearable.  Antacids don't give much
relief. Hasanyone else had a stomach acid problems? What did you do?

Most of us were put on a PPI or acid reducer immediately post op.  I never had acid pre-op, but it took me 6 months to wean myself off of the pepcid ac after surgery.  If I didn't take it, I got acid.

Call your doc and ask what they recommend.  Don't wait for the appointment.

I never suffered from acid reflux before surgery but after, I had big issues. I take Prolocec, if I forget, I am rudely reminded by my body by the afternoon. I find that the morning coffee is a culprit and I'm considering giving it up...well we'll see.

Take the Prilosec.
See if that helps.

So far, [I am3 weeks 2 days out] my biggest issue is with acid reflux.  A week ago I woke at 5:45 AM with the worst heartburn ever.  [not heart pain...etc..]  I have had severe acid reflux for 15 years and have been on everything.  My usual PPI is Nexium.  But even that is not sufficient at times.  I am in the pureed phase and it is worse, so I have relented to liquid protein and fluids only for the last few days.  I will see my surgeon on Wednesday so I hope to have a "plan."  Water is a complete no-no for me.  A friend of mine who lives on a "alkaline" diet suggested I drink plain water with fresh lemon slices and cucumber.  I thought that would make it worse, but it actually works for me, but not completely.  I have followed others suggestions and really tried not to drink 2-3 hours before bed.  Finally, my surgeon did warn me that since the sleeve is a "high pressure" system it is likely that my heartburn could worsen, but he felt that conventional PPIs could keep it at bay.   I'll keep you posted.  Best wishes to you!

Janie,
I had never dealt with acid reflux in my life until a month ago.  Now the acid really
burns my throat.  I had never experienced anything like it and didn't know how to
deal with it. Today I went to the store and got some acid reducer tablets.  The
antacid chewables didn't do a thing. We will see how it goes.  Wish me luck. I
don't want my surgery cancelled because of this problem.

This is TMI but one time I had acid come up while I was sleeping and i freakin choked on it and it burned my throat for hours. I was so confused. Also I threw up for the first time a few days ago and almost the whole thing was stomach acid. Never seen anything like it and the taste was SO strong. When I had a regular stomach sometimes there was that a tiny bit of stomach acid and that nasty taste at the very end but oh my god... I have never, ever, tasted anything like this. This was about 400 times more strong and nothing made it go away. It wasn't just that, but seeing how much of it came up was freaky.

Like I said, TMI, but I guess it just goes to show why people get acid reflux after surgery. We have so much of it down there in such a tiny space!
