It never ceases to amaze me how little I can eat!

For those of you who actually cook for more than 2 people and do that on the fly because you work....

You cook regular foods in regular (or what used to be regular) portions and get it on the table before the kitchen raiders or cry baby's get on your nerves.

Once everyone is fed, you go and measure out your smaller portion, (now you're pretty hungry or at least your head is) and you put 3 oz of grilled beef, a couple oz of green beans and a couple oz of mashed potatoes on your plate.

Then you start to eat and realize....all that food is NOT going in your belly... nope, no way, no how.

Still can only eat 2.5 oz of meat and 1 oz of other.

I manage 1.5 oz of other and now I set here typing, hoping it goes down quickly (sigh)

Will I never learn? (SIGH)

Funny, I was just thinking this exact thing. I have surgery coming up in ten days and am a little stressed over this. Does it seem like your sleeve can hold more now at 5 months out? If our sleeves can only hold 2-3 ounces for the rest of our life, how in the hell will we get enough nutrition to sustain our (smaller) bodies?!

I forgot to answer your other question.

I can't eat any more quantity than right after I healed and started solids.
It's stayed the same for me.

But my husband had the same surgery on the same day and it appears he is able to eat more and more as time goes on.

I think I'm a lot more sensitive to being overly full than he is...but I don't know why for sure.

There's plenty of room for that.

for the last month or so I was really struggling to keep the weight coming off. i had to add a lot of excersize and watch the empty calories.

I stay away from carbs.

I know when I finally reach my goal weight of 135 lbs I can start adding bread, fruit, beans, oatmeal, rice in small quantities to get me up to the calories I need. Again plenty of room for those things...at the right time. Right now I want to keep losing.

The protien, in this case, the steak, fills me up fast and keeps me full. My problem is I eat to fast and before I realize I'm full...I take a bite or two more. Never good for me. But, the sleeve works so I'm ok with it. I just get busy cooking in a busy house and I forget.

good luck with your surgery,
I'm sure you will love it.

What's amazing to me is that after six months, the exact same six months as you BTW, i still fix that plate.  what is that about? I have never once eaten what is on my plate and i measure but still add another spoonful of veg, just in case.  ****** me off. Still servicing my wants, not my needs.

Thanks very much for your detailed answers- they've made me feel much better! I'm good with the high protein/low carb for the weight loss phase, just wanted to be sure that fruits, whole grains, etc. could be added back in later on.

It's funny... I KNOW these things after reading these boards for so long but now that surgery is drawing very near, it's like my brain is freaking out a bit and stressing! :)

don't freak out... no reason for that. you will see that the difference is that you WON'T want to eat a lot, and you WON'T feel bad about it or sad that you can't eat more or so.

but the truth is that at least for me, I still eat VERY little fruits, whole grains etc (if any). it will never be the same, BUT we find out that our body can do really well with small ammounts of food, much less than we always thought possible. as for getting the nutrition, I just eat something little every 2-3 hours. works for me.

Donna.
I am still amazed also on how little I can eat.  It makes me very happy I still think this really isn't happening and I am so grateful it is.  Sometimes it's great just to sit back and smile.  And I'm finding I'm doing that alot.

Have a great evening,
Jeanne

Edelu, I hear ya!

I always put more on my plate than I KNOW I can eat!
What's up with that???!
I cant eat any more today than yesterday than tomorrow...so what's with the wishful thinking?
AND what's more, even if by chance I COULD eat more, I wouldn't want to because I am full!
You think it's some sub-concious thing?, just making sure we don't have to get up and get more?

beats me

I think habits die hard, we are so used to overeat that it's hard to estimate early out as it always seems so little food for our MINDS, that are so used to large quantities.

now I got really good at estimating the ammount I can eat, but it did take some time and adjustment. after a while, you are able to eyeball better the quantities. I don't overeat anymore. I can tell when I am having an extra bite I should not have. I think it took me around 10 months to not over eat (even by a spoon or so).
