Sometimes I don't think it through....
Been working lately, freelance commission work. I haven't had to work for a few months now and got kinda lazy. So back to work for me.
Problem is, since surgery I have developed eating strategies and habits that revolve around being home. I've been trying to figure it out as I go.
Yesterday after a really busy day, I get home and my husband wants to go out Mexican for dinner.
I get there and have about 8 corn chips (my ultimate enemy) and about 3 tbs of salsa and a couple sips of margarita (first one since surgery and drank maybe 1/8 cup).
I ordered a fajita no wrap.
It gets there and comes with re-fried beans, rice and the sour cream, guacamole etc.
I'm talking and eating, 2 oz of beef, 2 tbs of re-fried beans, 1 tbs of rice (indulging) and about 1 oz of the fried peppers/onions. all this in about 20 minutes....
Too Much. After about 5 more minutes it hit my stomach like a brick and I was sick.
I mean I got home and spent a few priceless moments praying to the almighty porcelain god. then I felt better,.
My husband says.."you didn't eat much"..then I added it all up and YES I DID!
I can be a tough learner.

P.S.
It all started because I lost 11 pounds this month

I appreciate your honesty! True how we get into a groove (well, I am not yet) which you did on the home front and then something goes and changes it. Reality can give us a kick in the pants -- or a painful stomach situation for a while, huh? This is my first week of real food and we have our grandson visiting. So we go to El Pollo Loco and I eat half a chicken thigh and think "should I do more? is this enough"? Do people take their scales to restaurants? (grin). Thanks for helping us know that no matter how experienced you are (good amount of time since surgery), it's not always without a bump here and there.
I wonder about my ability to handle eating out. I really don't trust eyeballing how much is enough. I would probably look crazy pulling a measuring cup out of my purse, huh? Sorry you got sick but thanks for sharing as it is a reminder that I must try as hard as I can to practice mindful eating and to plan ahead of time if I am going to be away from home. Whenever I have errands to run or if I am going to be gone from home for an extended period of time I have to constantly remind myself to prepare as much as possilbe ahead of time. For me, no plan equals major screw ups!
Thanks for sharing that. Good to know!
I find I eat less when I go out. I am so nervous about eating too much, I think I over compensate and actually eat too little.
I went out for Mexican last night, too. Ordered Pollo a Parilla - (skinless, marinated char broiled chicken breast with sliced avocado, sliced tomato and cheese). Came with rice and beans. I left the rice, ate maybe a TBS of beans and an ounce to ounce and a half or so of the chicken. Didn't touch the chips (YAY me!).
I've got enough food left for about 3 more meals. LOL.
Whenever I can't weigh out my food, I tend to "guesstimate" my portion and then make it about a quarter smaller. So far that's worked for me.
