I will be 3 weeks post-op with my VSG this Wednesday and I honestly can't stand another chewable or crushed pill!  My iron is very low and I need to supplement...

When can I start swallowing pills?

Each surgeon is different on this so ask yours to see what he says.

There are soft chews available which taste pretty good. Bariatric advantage makes a soft chew for iron in chocolate raspberry flavor which is pretty yummy. You can google it and order it online.

I started taking an iron supplement about three weeks out.  It's about the size of a sudafed pill.  It's very small and I don't have any trouble taking it.  You still should check with your doc before you swallow anything, but I didn't have any problems.

I was back on my bp meds immediately after my leak test in the hospital, no problems, pill is reasonably small, but not tiny

I was told in the hospital anything as small or smaller then an M&M candy is ok to swallow. I didn't listen. I opened all my capsules and crushed all pills for the first month. YUK...
I am now 1 day away from being 2 months out and I can swallow all my meds. I just never take them all at the same time, I wait at least an hour in between each pill.

My doctor said no pills at all for 8 weeks. Until then everything was either crushed or chewable.

They were giving me pain PILLS in the hospital. Once my leak test came back ok. I asked about it and I was told that the acid in your stomach would liquify the pill immediately. I don't know if it is is true, but I take pills daily and at almost 2 weeks out, I have NO issues with it.

I have the calcium/vit D that can be broken in half, it is about the size of a m&m (each half), I started taking those when I got home from the hospital and then taking the whole pill probably within a couple of weeks. No troubles at all.

I was allowed to swallow pills in the hospital and ever since. I take a good 15 pills a day with no problems. I was even taking those HUGE mucinex pills with no problems at a little over a month out.
