60%
Ok, so I had originally begun this journey with my heart set on the RNY. A month or so ago some things happened that made my surgeon think I had Crohns. Since then I have been researching the VSG and reading every post on this board and I had 99.9% changed my mind to the VSG regardless of my status with Crohns. Well, yesterday, I had to have a colonoscopy (fun stuff) and was officially diagnosed with Crohns. It's very, very mild...but still, no RNY for me, and I'm ok with that! Anyway, I spoke to someone in my surgeons office today and she was going over some info and she mentioned that the typical weightloss for a VSG is 60% of the weight you need to lose, which for me equated to 107lbs. I want to lose more than that! So what I'm asking is...did anyone else breakthrough the 60% barrier, and if so, what do I need to do to make the most out of this sleeve and prove the surgeon wrong?? I'm very motivated!!

Not speaking from experience because I'm being sleeved in 2 days, but I've heard TONS of stories on here of people *****ached their complete goal weight. There is a tool on here that says the average is 65% of the excess, but I think it's like anything else, it is what you make out of it. The people who have reached goal weight or are close, followed the surgeon's guidelines and most of them faithfully exercise. It's not going to do all the work for you. I started at 336, have lost 20 #s with my liquid diet & exercise and I want to get to 165-180#s. Officially my "ideal" weight is 142 & I don't have a problem with never reaching that. So I think that stat may be connected to the 'ideal' weight rather than more realistic #s for many of us.

I too can't speak from experience but i have been stalking the boards for a few wks now and i've seen awesome sucess stories and many ppl that have meet and exceeded their drs goals and/or their own personal goals... u have to remember that if 60% is avg, that means there were ppl who didn't get to 60% and ppl who lost more than 60%... As said above, it's a tool... and i think even if i only lose 100 lbs, it'll be worth it, tho i plan to be in the group to lose much more :-) and I will bust ass n do whatever it takes to make sure of that... Average does not define ME and never has... GOOD LUCK!!!
