Found out I'm even more unhealthy than I thought

I'm still pre-op, about a month until all my info goes over to insurance for approval. I had a visit with my primary care doctor last night to go over a sleep study and some xrays I had done of my knees, which were bothering me. I went in hopefull, but the news was not good. The sleep study results were inconclusive because I didn't get enough REM sleep, but based on the REM sleep I was able to achieve I have sleep apnea. If I wasn't getting WLS next month I would have to go back and do it over again for more conclusive results and I would probably have to wear a C-Pap machine when I sleep at night. As of now, I am sending the sleep study results over to my surgeon and they will determine if I need a new sleep study or not.
Next we talked about my knees. My knees have been bothering me for a long time now on and off, but recently it's a more constant issue. My Doctor told me that I have arthritis in both of my knees and that no one at my age should have this type of problem. He said if I didn't loose weight I would be one of his youngest patients ever to need knee replacement surgery in a few years. This really upset me, I can't believe I have arthrits problems. My poor body has been carrying this weight around for too long and it just can't do it anymore.
Thank goodness for this surgery! I am more determined than ever to make my new tool work for me to get this weight off. This is not the life that I want to live. I want to get out and be active, ride my bike, go hiking, kayaking, and just enjoy the outdoors. Right now those things are hard, if not impossible, to do, but in 6 months I'm hoping to get closer to those activity goals.

I'm sorry. I know that both those pieces of news were upsetting.
I have a lot of problems with my knees too, just general achiness. I also fell a month or so ago (twice in one day!) and fell on my knees both times as I was carrying my daughter in her carrier. So, they've been even worse since then.
I'm hopeful that surgery and weightloss will really help me feel better.

Hey there! don't get discouraged at the new developments! If nothing else think of them as even more chips in your favor when it comes time to get approval from your insurance. Your doctors will document that by having the weight loss surgery you will in all likelihood resolve both of these issues. Insurance companies would rather not have to spend more money later if they dont have to and knee replacement surgery is a huge cost to them. And paying for a CPAP machine isn't really high on their list of favorite things to do either. So both of these issues can only help you out right now.
Hang in there lady! These are just stepping stones to a new you!

well, bad news sucks, that's for sure. but look what you're doing: taking control of your health and making things better NOW. you're going to be able to move more easily, ease the presssure on your knees, probably not need the c-pap, all the good stuff. this is not only going to be a new life with the vsg, but also a longer one. rock on!!! (((((hugs)))

I have arthritis in my foot (diagnosed at age 34 or so, and weight related). Now that I've lost quite a bit of weight, I've had NO foot pain, for months. It's great :) Overall, now that I'm lighter, my body feels a lot better.

hmmm.... I worked in a sleep lab for a long time. Sounds like it is possible that your study was goofed up by technical error- if you have to redo it you should grill them about this or switch to another lab- double check to make sure the lab is accredited. There are a lot of substandard labs out there.
