I'm seeing a lot of people saying they were in the hospital for 2+ nights....my surgeons office told me I would only be there for 1 night.  Should I expect to be there longer?

It is up to the individual doctors to decide.  Some require one night stay others require two nights stays. My dr. required a one night stay.  Hope this helps.

So you only stayed 1 night and felt ok to go home the next day?  Don't get me wrong, I'd love to only have to stay 1 night, but not if I'm going to feel rushed or not ready.

My DR usually says 2 days because the 2nd day he does the leak test.. I stayed 3 days because my drain wasn't ready to come out and he preferred I stay and let the hospital staff remove it the next day. I was sOooo ready to go home that next day after surgery.. lol

I will share a secret with you.

After more surgeries in a lifetime than any one individual should be subjected to, I feel I can share some wisdom....
You heal better at home. (I would preach this to anyone who would listen)

If all the worse risks have been checked and eliminated for the most part, then educate the patient and send them home.

If you experience certain symtoms after you get home (your doctor will write them out for your) then get thyself to the e-hospital and call the surgeon on the way (been there done that ,(**not with this surgery) It's rare but can happen ).
Otherwise, follow the post surgery plan and be cool.

If the doc wants you there 2 nights, then stay 2 nights.
If he says go home...then it's all good.

Best of luck with your surgery.

My surgeon requested a second night because I was very nauseous and was being given anti nausea drugs in my IV. I passed the leak test the day after surgery and otherwise felt fine-no pain, was up and walking etc, vitals remained normal. I was glad to have the second night but could have gone home after one if necessary, but everyone is different.

Yes my surgery was at  8 am on Friday morning and I had my leak test at noon on Sat. and I left at 3:30 Sat. afternoon after I was able to drink clear liquids.  Was very well taken care of but was ready to be home.  Did not feel rushed or hurried at all.

I was told 2-3 nights but probably just 2. Every person is different & every doctor is different. I had surgery at noon on Monday & went hom by rush hour Tuesday night. I had walked 20 laps around the hospital floor & although I was soar, I was GLAD to be home!

If you follow your doc's instructions, you will be just fine. Plan for a LONG stay...Pray for a short one! You will be just fine!
