Should I get a second opinion??
I have done battle with 2 insurance companies and now am finally approved for surgery. I am now battling with my pulmonologist who told me my breathing test is the best he has ever seen, and also told me I am an excellent candidate for surgey....yet will not approve my surgery because i did not wear my c-pap machine every nite for 6 months straight. I am now doomed to wait 6 more months. To say I am bummed is an understatement. My surgeon gave me a date of 04/09 and now I cannot have the surgery. I had a stress test and echo which also were perfect. The cardiologist approved me for surgery. I have never smoked and do not take any meds for anything. I am just a fat girl who needs to lose this weight before I get co-morbilities.
My surgeon's office recommended I see another pulmonologist for a second opinion. Should I?
Are there any Chicago-land pulmonologists that have approved you for weight loss surgery that you can recommend.
Thanks,
Sharon

your pulminologist sounds like he is really being a hard ass about this. as someone who is hoping to become a doctor, i know that we are to do what is the best interest of the patient and i think your pulminologist is forgetting that and being way too black and white.
yes, get the second opinion, dont let one hard ass who probably doesnt agree with bariatrics stop you from getting what you need.
its sad to say but alot of docs have their own agendas and opinions and sometimes it clouds the way they treat us. we have seen alot of GPs and such on here being very discriminatory to their bariatric patients.

I'm sorry to hear your Pulmonologist is being a complete A-hole about this....Sometimes I wish we could just shake some of these Docs and say "Dont you know how important this is to me" I would get a second opinion by maybe someone that your Surgeons Office can Recommend....There is no reason why you should miss your Surgery date on a Technicality! Good Luck

Mine requires that I used it for the 14 days before surgery and it shows no incidence during those 14 days. So that sounds like he has a problem with bariatric surgery. Did you ask him what his medical basis was for this?
