My surgeon requires clearance from a pulmonologist and cardiologist. In the mean-time my insurance approved me, so I got a date 04/09, but only if I got clearance.

The Pulmonologist made me do a breathing test for $750, which I passed with flying colors. He asked me if I have a Cpap machine, I said yes, but I cant get used to it. In the consult he told me he was going to clear me for surgery. Then my surgeons office called me to cancel the surgery because in his clearance leter to the surgeon, he cleared me with the understanding I come back to see him in 6 mos with the C-PAP machine recorder showing I used my machine every nite.

I would get a 2nd opinion. My husband's PCP wrote a negative letter to his ins company for his approval. Luckily the surgeon had received a copy of the letter and did not submit it. They referred him to a WLS PCP who wrote him an excellent approval letter. He still sees that PCP to this day. Like others have said ask the surgeon's office do they recommend any pulmonologists. Sometimes they know WLS friendly drs, psych, etc. GL to you at any rate hope that all goes well.
