I was cleared for nuts at 7 weeks, however they must be completely shelled. It can be hard on a new sleeve to break down super fibrous things. Be careful with pistachios. 1 ounce is 159 calories per ounce. Only 6g of protein in that as well. They won't really fill you up, either. On the average losing phase diet (600-800 calories), a meal should be at or around 200 calories. Nuts are hardly a meal and nearly the amount of nutrition of a full meal. An occassional treat is fine, but things like nuts can easily become a grazing food that you eat a lot more of than you think you did. Try to stick to dense, meat proteins.

Ah, there is the "when can we" and "when should we." I too love pistachios. I believe I was cleared for nuts at 3 months. That is a question for your surgeon.

However, they are pretty high calorie (all nuts) and I don't eat them very often. I weigh them out when I do, and I'm usually sad to see what a 1/2 ounce really looks like. Sigh. They would suck up a lot of my calorie allotment for the day.

I too love pistachios but can't stop eating them once I start...too yummy! I now have a new love of roasted soy nuts. They are a daily staple for me, you should give them a try when allowed. They have the same calories as other nuts but a bit less fat and 3 times the amount of protein. They cure that salty crunchy desire =)

Since regular nuts are high-ish in fat and cals, I like to mix them with soy nuts.  I have one ounce of this soy nut mix maybe 5 times a week, as part of my evening snack.

Most grocery stores sell them.  I also get a very low calorie, archer farms brand, soy nut at Target.  Sometimes they are hard to find....  I've had to ask store people where they are...Sometimes they are in the produce section, sometimes they are with the nuts, etc...

I was cleared for nuts at 8 weeks out.  I eat pistachios several times a week.  I do better with them than with shelled nuts, because they take a long time to eat and are more satisfying to me.  I have a hard time with shelled nuts, because although they taste good, a 1 oz portion does not really elicit a satisfied feeling and I tend to over eat them.
