You'll do great! Don't worry, but I think I would have some one stay a night or two with you when you get home.  Better safe than sorry.  Good Luck,

Jeanne

Congrats on your date!

I would definitely see if someone could come and stay with you or you with them for the first few days.  I wasn't in that much pain, but I would have been in deep water if I were alone.

I wouldn't go so far as having a nurse stay the night, but if it would make you feel more comfortable, do you have a friend or family member who can take you home from the hospital and maybe go pick up your prescriptions? My husband had prescriptions that he needed filled that night, so I took him home and back out I went.

Besides, you're probably not going to feel like driving right after getting out of the hospital anyways (not sure how long you'll be in the hospital, since this seems to vary by surgeon).

Good luck! Please do keep us posted

I'm in the same boat as you.  I"m 5'7 and I'm currently 229 lbs.  I just got my surgery date (April 12).  I was nervous too, but then I remembered why I wanted to have bariatric surgery in the first place.  I'm excited to start the next part of my life....a little smaller and healthier.

I don't think you'll need a nurse, but if it will make you feel better, then do what makes you comfortable.  Is there anyone close to you that you could call if something happened and you need to return to hospital?

I'll be in for 3 days for my surgery.  did they tell you how many days you'll be in?

It's normal to be nervous, but you'll be fine.

My pre-op diet is similiar - small meal right up to night before surgery.

You'll do great.  Keep us posted.

Hey Fireman.
I think we all were just a tad bit scared, but man you are in for a wonderful ride so hold on.. It will be a year for me April 20th and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I don't see were you need to hire a nurse, just a friend  will do. You have to get up and walk a lot and sip water, that will keep you busy and your protein. Just do what the Dr. tells you and you will be find.
I have lost 81 lbs so far. When you can go to the gym and exercise, that will work wonders also. God Bless

I have to say, do what makes you feel comfortable.
I know I felt bad for the first 2 days, mostly because of the anastesia. I never responded well to that stuff. But after that, it was a cake walk.

I had surgery on a Monday and on Thursday I walked all over TJ and  Friday I went to a bullfight in TJ LOL,
Had a great time too.
My husband, 58 had surgery on the same day and was out walking around on Wed, Thurs, Friday and every other damn day too.
Seems to me husbands should suffer more, right? Oh well.

My daughter, who is a big baby and a worry wart, and who is probably reading this was supposed to stay with me after we got back after her surgery, day 5....she stayed one day and blew outta here on day 6, apparently she needed to show her friends how good she was feeling. Granted she is a lot younger.

I think if you are going to have any issues it will be in the first few days after the surgery while you're in the hospital. After that it's just an adjustment time.

However, living alone can be kinda scary. So I say if you have someone who can come over for a few hours a day or stay a night or two, and it makes you feel more comfortable, then go for it. You probably won't want them longer than a day or two.

Good Luck to you!
Hope to meet you in person before the surgery so I can see the difference after surgery.
Feel free to email me if you need a friend to talk or you have questions you cant get answered quick enough on this forum.

cheers

Hi Bruce-great to hear you now have a date set for your surgery! My advise would be try and relax and think about how wonderful you are going to feel afterwards!! Not sure you would need a nurse though-might want to check with your doc on that one.

Its a breeze dude...you'll do fine.  I had my op on a Thursday and I was home on Friday...driving on Monday.  I had some discomfort but nothing crazy...alittle gas.  Its always nice to have someone around I guess...just in case but recovery is not that Earth Shattering.  I was not really big either...6'3" and 326 day of surgery.  I would imagine its easier for smaller guys to get around and in and out of bed then someone much larger.  Best of luck!
Thanks for all the help!!
