Excercise Sucks
Maybe it is running you hate. I just told somebody that the only time you would see me running is from a fire or if a monster was chasing me, but walking or exercise classes that are more social or dance based work for me. I even kind of like lifting small weights. You don't need to run to be fit. I was thinking of trying rollerblading this summer just to switch things up.
How can we forget the Waffle. Glad to see that you are still coming back to visit and just started the couch to 5k myself, only have gotten though week 1 and yes, it sucks but like you, I've always wanted to be one of the people that cross the finish line of a 5k. You can do it! Don't be a stranger!
Yay, Sir Waffle--doing the right stuff! I WISH I could run but it totally bugs my back out if I do. So I'm jealous, but you hate it...that's life, yes? I'm with the poster who said ya gotta find the stuff you love to do. I'm a huge fan of bicycling and badminton, lifting weights is a giant bore to me. I do push ups, planks, other core work, etc., at home, but my main cardio pleasure is group cycling. Take care! Jenny
Ok, a few words of advice if you are feeling horrible afterward.
1) Make sure you are stretching before and after, and I mean really stretching (go to youtube they have amazing video's that will show you great stretches).
2) Look at your footwear and the clothing you are wearing, most times if you are feeling crappy during and after a run it's because you are overheated, wear NOTHING that is 100% cotton (especially socks!), and if you have not gone to a local running store to have your gait and footfalls evaluated to make sure you are wearing the right shoes then DO IT, it's so important to be wearing the right shoes. Your knees and back will thank you later.
3) Google form and breathing techniques, these are both SO important and will help you improve your time, stamina and the way you feeling during and after your run.
4) If something hurts when you are done, ice it and take Advil.
5) Monitor your heart rate and pace, you are not doing yourself or your body any favors if you are pushing to hard to fast.
For the first few weeks in the C25K I was miserable, I hated it and I pushed myself too hard. I was about to give up when I met a local runner who gave me all of the same advice I just gave you, I went though it step by step and noticed that things that where hard before became much, much easier and I was able to finish parts I was struggling with before. Now, I love running, literally love it and crave it. I have 3 5k's scheduled for April and a 10k in May and a half marathon in October!
