Cost of Sleeve in Mexico. Would you recommend your surgeon?

I went to Dr. Almanza. He is controversial on this board. While I had a good experience, I can't say that about everyone who has gone there. Some people have not had good experiences and some people have. . His surgery center is a clinic, not a full-service hospital. Please do your research! I fully agree with the other posters that Dr. Alvarez is excellent and so is Dr. Aceves based on all of the research I did Another excellent surgeon is Dr. Joya in Puerto Vallarta . I just couldn't afford their prices at the time and I couldn't afford to save up any longer because of a diagnosis of diabetes type 2. I needed help NOW. I took a chance and was luckily pleased with my experience.

I hope I don't get flamed for this but PLEASE DO NOT GO TO DR. POMPA in Tijuana. I have read more than a few posters mention they got incorrectly done sleeve surgeries. She did the surgery in such a way that their stomachs were far larger than most and therefore did it wrong. Some have had to repay to get surgery again! One poster mentioned she had to get resleeved and some of the others are mentioning they got barium swallows from bariatric surgeons to find out their surgeries were incorrectly done. Too risky! These posts are all on Obesity Help.

Choose wisely! If you can afford to spend arond 8K--Dr. Alvarez, Dr. Joya, and dr. Aceves are probably the most well regarded! Dr. Kelly is well known too and his price is around 5K which is a bargain. Best of luck!!

Dr Aceves and his team were really amazing, and he is one of the best.if you are self pay, you can be really selective about your surgeon and your experiences. Full hospital, blood bank onsite, icu if needed. Three post op nights in hospital. I wouldn't do it differently.

He's $8750 last I heard, and yes- full service hospital and wonderful level of care.. Great sleeve & restriction, great patient outcomes with EWL%, and he's got wonderful credentials that check out! (can't say the same about some others in MX!)

The ones I would consider for a sleeve: Aceves, Alvarez and Ungson.. 

I went Dr Alvarez in Piedras Negras, he and his staff are AWESOME. The cost is under $9K and I have had No problems/sickness.

Hi - I had mine done in Tijuana on March 9th, 2012. I went to Dr. Ponce De Leon for approximately $5500. I had a coordinator (Trish) who took care of everything. ( I really liked the fact that I didn't have to send any money until I got there!!) Loved Dr. Ponce! while his English is limited we were able to communicate through Trish, and his surgical team are all English speaking. He actually does a lot of lap band to sleeve revisions, and works with many "complicated" patients (especially from Canada).

There are MANY excellent doctors in Tijuana - do your research, but don't be scared to go there. Most of us that went had NO issues with walking around, the hotel or even the hospital! if you want more information about Dr. Ponce and/or my experience, just PM me...

I went to Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. He and his team are wonderful. I felt more comfortable knowing I would be in the hospital for 3 nights. Many of the patients were there alone. I did not have any nausea or other problems. By far, the best medical experience I have ever had!

Paid $5500 plus my airfare with Dr Ponce and Tri**** was a great experience. Felt very well taken care of. The hospital was really nice and the staff was fantastic.

Im just curious....if u have your surgery in mexico who does your follow visits...what if there is complications later on

Look up  Dr. Alvarez he has written a book about VSG and done over 3,000 of them. Endobariatric.com  and he charges $8,700. for 2 day hotel stay/2 day hospital stay & tranportation to and from airport to hotel,andhotel to hospital,and back again.  I had mine done in TJ with Dr. Almanza and paid only $4500. I was very pleased with this experience and found the hotel we stayed at the following days of recovery a 5-star hotel! I was pleased with my entiire stay!
