I Need Some Advice

So, my surgery is the 24th. I'm doing low carb right now. Trying my best to make it under 30g (total) per day. I'm not eating any bread, rice, sweets. It's just amazing how those carbs randomly pop up where you don't expect them. Sugar free popsicles shocke me.

Anyway hubby and I go every year to the Melting Pot on our anniversary in June. We take the photo, everything. I know in June I won't be at a point where I can do that and I really want to go before my sleeve.

Do you think I've waited too long to decide to do this? Will I sabotage everything if I have carbs tonight?

Any advice is appreciated. I guess I just want to feel like I was able to share this last experience because I know in June nor any year after will it be the same.

Kinda bad desperate food addict thinking I know.

I am sorry to say I am one of the few that has never stayed under 30g of carbs except RIGHT after surgery.  I was told by my nut that as much working out as I do I was better off with more carb intake, just had to make sure it was the right type of carbs.  Whole Grains, Fruit and Vegetables.  Processed Carbs are not nutritional and of no help.   I regularly get 80 to 130g of carbs daily.  But it's all personal and your own choice.  Good luck.

You didn't have to do low carb pre op to shrink your liver? My surgeon said we have to stay off the carbs so he can see our stomach as best as possible. I figure even if I'm not hitting 30g or less, I am still changing tremendously from what I was doing. I mean I'd have a Venti frappuccino from Starbucks before. Now I'm having smaller, breve lattes with sugar free syrup. I am sure I'm consuming 1/10th of the carbs I was having last week lol

Actually no I didn't have a low card diet before hand. I had a 5 day liquid diet but that's my doctors pre-surgery diet :)

I think what you are thinking is perfectly normal.  My family took me out for a "Last Dinner" before I started my liquids only diet.

You can definitely enjoy the melting pot, without going crazy on the carbs or the calories.  For example the four course classic if you eat reasonably and take the healthier choices.

The trick in a lot of these places is to watch the grazing behavior.  Take small bites of the fondue and the salad.  Save most fo your focus for the main course.  You can have a good time, and a good meal, and not ruin the progress you have already made.

Start practicing the skills you will need after surgery.  Go to their website, get the nutritional info, and plan your meal out before hand.

True. Thanks for the advice. My surgeon showed us pics of his patients who didn't follow low carb regimen and he wasn't able to operate because their livers didn't allow him to see the stomach. I am eating way healthier now mostly opting for grilled meat on top of salad. Or last night hubby made chicken cordon bleu with grilled asparagus. I also had raw cauliflower because I was dying for some crunch. I managed to not eat popcorn last night at the movies. I guess I am making progress, I just want not to want all these bad foods so badly. :)

Also keep in mind, the low carb shrinks your liver by depeleting the bodys stores of glycogen.  Glycogen is a sugar chain that your body breaks down for short term bursts of energy.  It is also kind of bulky which is why people notice a lot of shrinking on the pre-op diet.

Focus on non-starchy vegetables when you are out.  For example, asparagus dipped in the cheese fondue could be something you have.  The artichoke hearts, these things they have there that you could probably get raw or lightly steamed.  For the sauces the curry, green goddess, or gorgonzola port miight be good (i would ask if they add sugar to the port when they reduce it - if so stay away).

anyway, Have yourself a blast!  JUst plan ahead.

You could go in June as usual and just have soup or something fitting to whatever stage you are in at the time.  Remember that the food is only one aspect of the annual tradition.  You get to go with your husband, spend time with him, just sit and relax in the restaurant and get your traditional picture. The amount of food you can eat will change so your traditional meal will be smaller anyway.
