Yep I was told by nutritionist and support people that you should drink in ounces 1/2 of your body weight.  and if you work out you are suppose to drink 16 oz extra for every hour you workout.  Our body's are made up of what 70% water so we need a lot.  More than I ever knew lol

It really does make sense, and I was wondering about the working out.  I'm currently doing about 30 minutes of cardio a day... so that would take me to about 120 oz.  Geesh!

I'll get there.  Thanks! :)

I left the hospital drinking 8 glasses of fluid a day (of course it took ma all day and most of the night - lol). I never counted protein shakes toward my fluid. I know myself and I need a lot of water. It was a struggle (more like two full-time jobs), but I was always able to get in at least 64 oz of fluids (I drink a lot of caffeine free tea - goes down easier for me) AND reach my mins for protein - early on.

As you progress it gets easier. I'm almost 6 months out and at 80-90 grams of protein without shakes and at least 100 ounces of water a day. My carbs stay below 30.

Good luck!

Thanks Slim!

Honestly, I think part of my struggle comes from the going back to work part.  It's hard to remember to sip when I have 30 teenagers at a time who need my attention... lol.

Definitely shows me that I need to rethink things a little.  Maybe I can change my delivery method of our reading for a little while so that my mouth isn't so busy reading to the students that I don't have time to sip (pretty much what happened yesterday).

I am right behind you on surgery date and like you have not worked my way up to as much liquids as I should be getting.  I don't count soups, jello, protien bullets etc as liquids and currently get about 60oz water a day.  Now that it is the weekend my goal is 80 oz each day.  I am getting about 60 grms protien each day too.  I feel like if I drank that much fluids I would be on the potty all day and night!  But it is important so something we all need to strive toward.  Can I count the two cups of crystal light I spilled on myself during my walk this am???

Lol!  I wish!  I might have made my fluid goals on Thursday if I could have counted the 8 oz or so that I knocked over in front of my class... how embarrassing haha!  Luckily I have several sweet students who jumped up to take care of it for me, knowing I didn't need to be crouching down like that.

I've noticed myself, when I get so distracted or busy at work that I can go 30 mins or more without taking a drink. What reminds me is that my mouth and throat gets dry. I know, once I feel this, I have already gone too long. I am thinking of having a sport bottle attached to me, so that I don't put it down and walk away from it while distracted. I work in a retail warehouse, so I am constantly moving and doing multiple things at once. I think feeling it on me, will be a big reminder to keep drinking. It took me 3 months to get to 64 oz's a day. I think making some minor adjustments will help increase it to 72 or more. I found I couldn't get in enough liquid by taking small sips. So once I started taking large mouth fulls, and slowly swallowing some at a time, I was able to get through my liquids much quicker. I jumped from 32-40 oz to 64 oz just by taking larger mouthfuls.

Yep.  This is something I need to work on.  I'll start off with my drink at my desk, then I'll move to the podium and forget to bring it with me, or I'll bring it with me to the podium and then get to talking with the kids, and next thing you know I've gone an hour without drinking.  Not good.

Now at least I have something to work on for Monday. :)
