I'm pre op at drink 5 litres daily just to quench my thirst. I'm curious how my body will react to the lesser amount immediately post op.

Are you diabetic?  That's the first thing that comes to my mind when I hear someone say they drink that much to avoid feeling thirsty.  I'm sure there are other conditions that can make you feel that way, but I'm not as familiar with them.

If there is some kind of medical reason for why you are feeling that thirsty now, keep in mind that a lot of health problems are known to improve post op, so you may not have as big of a problem with this as  you think.

You may also want to practice taking smaller sips now just to see how much you can get in during a day... maybe see how you feel on a little less.  After a few weeks to a month or so, drinking won't be as difficult, but right now, it's a challenge... and I'm almost 3 weeks out.

I had a very liberal school environment so I'm not sure if it would fly in an average school, but what about enlisting your students to help remind you keep up with you water?  I don't think that would have been out of place at all in our classrooms.

Keep up the good work!

I've thought about that, and I don't think that would be a problem in my classroom either, mainly because they are in high school and should be able to handle something like that.  Since you have now thought of it too, and great minds think alike,  maybe I'll play around with that idea tomorrow.  Thanks :)
