FitBit Question

 Hey everyone,
I know the fitbit is primarily for steps but have you found an effective way for it to measure a bike ride? Where would I place it or should I just use a different tracker and manually enter its calculations?

Thanks!

you are sorta out of luck for bike rides with the fitbit.  You have 2 choices, if you have a smartphone you can use something like cardiotrainer or endmodo.  You just put in that you are riding a bike rather than running/walking and it'll track your distance and speed.  Then you can add it to your fitbit later.  Or you can buy a GPS watch (garmin is the usually recommended brand) that you can buy an adapter for your bike.  Honestly, unless you plan on doing bike races, triatholons or something like that, this is probably a bit of a spendy solution.

FitBit ultra will track you on a bike, or elliptical, or treadmill.  It won't track on a recumbent stationary bike (the kind where you are sitting with your legs in front of you).  It uses a set of accelerometers to measure your leg movement, so if you do a series of movements similar to walking, it will count.

Is it a separate setting? I have an Ultra. I always have it attached to my bra. Would I need to wear it somewhere else? Thanks.

I carry mine in my pocket.  If you are wearing it up top maybe its not seeing enough movement?

Mine tracks me on a recumbent bike as that is all I ride at the gym.. It uses wii technology and any movement will be tracked.

Thanks everyone! Why does it say that I've burned like 2000 calories in a day when that is waaaayyyy high? How do you guys adjust for this? Thanks!

I linked my FitBit to MyFitnessPal now and am definitely looking at what the adjustments are. I am not eating that much so I'm not super worried about it until I am in more normal foods stage.

Every product I use comes up with a different number.  I usually just take the lowest of them which is generally MFP just to be safe.  FitBits are way high - if I used thosed I should lose like 3 lbs a day on my most active days.

The best calorie estimates are based on either heart rate or VO2 exchange.  Get a good heart rate monitor to wear while you exercise.  I use the polar RS100 - I got it for about 40 bucks at Best Buy.  You can get some that also have pedometers and the like in them, but I like the fitbit better for that - its unobtrusive has wirelss syncing and all of that.
