Acid reflex question

I just got my upper GI test back and I have mild to modrate acid reflex. I was thinking of getting the sleeve since I found out if was covered by my insurance. But I heard it increases acid as well. Anyone have the sugery with acid reflex? Or did anyones acid reflex get better? Or worse? Thanks for the help.
I didn't have acid reflux until I gained weight. Now that I have it I've found many of the acid reflux meds give me stomach cramps and I can't take them. I decided to try two teaspoon fulls twice a day of organic apple cider vinegar mixed in with my water and low and behold no more acid reflux! My surgery date was changed to the 29 of this month and I am getting the sleeve as well. I'm hoping with weight loss, diet, and apple cider vinegar I can continue flux free! It doesn't taste the greatest but it beats acid.
I had heartburn like twice before VSG...literally maybe 2 times. I take a PPI everyday and if I don't, it feels like my throat is on fire. I didn't know about the chance of getting reflux after the sleeve...but even if I did, it wouldnt have changed my mind. 120% satisfied sleeve customer here with reflux.
I had acid reflux before I got the sleeve and was already on Prilosec.
I am still taking Prilosec because my surgeon prescribed it to use after surgery, but I can already tell my reflux is better and I am guessing it is because I've lost 40 pounds. I didn't have the reflux when I was at this weight before, only when I gained some more. Now it seems to be gone again, but I'll still take the Prilose****il I'm told not to.

I had such severe reflux prior to my VSG in 2009 that I had had a surgical procedure called a Nissen Fundoplication for it in 2005. Well, that blew out in a couple of years, and the reflux returned. I went back on the proton pump inhibitors (Protonix) and bought a new supply of Gaviscon and wedge pillows.
When I investigated the surgery and conferred with the surgeon, we came to the conclusion that I'm going to have the reflux for the rest of my life anyway, so we went ahead with the VSG. With the weight loss (100lbs from my high), the reflux has stayed the same. So, I still take the PPI, I still need to use Gaviscon occasionally, and up to when I bought my wonderful IKEA adjustable bed, I had to sleep with wedges.
I still have a travel wedge, but the adjustable bed was the answer. The only negative about it is that my husband and I have twin beds (he decided he liked the adjustable bed on it's own merits) right next to each other. So one of us needs to cross "the great divide" to snuggle.
So:
BAD REFLUX + ADJUSTABLE BED+MEDICATION=ONLY MILDLY SYMPTOMATIC GERD
I'm happy.

Thank you everyone for all the advice. My doctor called yesturday to tell me that I have gallstones, so my gallbladder will be removed during my surgery. And that my acid level is to high for him to recommened the VSG, he thinks the by-pass will be a better choice for me.
Sleeve size seems to be a major factor here. I have the DS, and when I got mine back 8+ years ago, my sleeve was made to hold 3-5 ounces. It completely CURED my acid reflux. But when surgeons started making sleeves smaller to combat regain, we started seeing more people with acid refulx problems post-op. You might also want to consider getting a DS---it has a larger sleeve than the stand-alone VSG, plus an intestinal bypass to compensate for being able to eat more. And it has the very best long-term, maintained weight-loss stats.

He thinks that the acid will get worse. I have a family history of it. My mom is on Nexium and she isn't obese just overweight. So I don't know. I will ask by-pass patients, Thanks
