Hi all !  How long should I expect to be out of work after surgery? I have a sit down job only have a week vacation. Will I be able to go back that soon?

They say you should be - but I think it depends sometimes on the surgeon.  My doctors office told me they would like me to take 1 to 1 1/2 weeks off (I had an office job).  Unfortunately or fortunately I was laid off right before surgery, so I have the entire summer to learn my new lifestyle.

Hi.  I'm 3 weeks out.  I thought I'd be back to work after 2 weeks.  I went to the Dr. And he didn't give me clearance to go back.  Said I had not healed enough.  I did have a hernia repaired during my sleeve surgery.  This may have something to do with his decision.  I was very surprised since it seems everyone on here and other message boards seem to have no trouble going back to work.  Luckily, I have short term disability insurance that will cover me until he clers me to go back.  I would not have wanted to go back to work after 1 week.  I thinki it's too soon.   I wish you good luck and a quick recovery!

My doc suggested to take 4-6 weeks off. I also have short term disability coverage, so I'm taking 6 weeks. Personally, I would not have been able to go back after a week but everyone is individual in this aspect.

Hi - I took three weeks off per my doctor's suggestion.  That seems to be a good amount of time although I am dreading going back to work this Monday.  I have a desk job but it seems like I'm up and down many times throughout the day.  I have been cleared to return to work with the 10 lb. lifting/push/pull restriction for another two weeks.
