You were having to take it 3x/day to get things moving at first? My RN said it's harder for our bodies to hold onto it or something and that's why it wasn't working for me. I'm going to have to up my dose for a few days. Poop is complicated too lol

Yes... it took that long for me to notice a difference, but I was really badly constipated.  I had been painfully trying to go for several days before I even started that regimen, so I guess it just had a lot to work through... sorry if that's TMI!

Its extremely complicated... I hate poo! lol

I've had IBS with constipation for years and years!  Was hoping with the surg things would "move" better, ya, thats a NO...  I have a capful of miralax daily.  Unfortunately my kiddos have the same issue.  They call the miralax their "fiber"...

Benefiber just blow my intestines up and make me feel like I have a large balloon in my belly that has knot of steel.  Doesn't come up or out! lol

That seems a bit over cautious. I take presctiptions that do not have liquid form and I HAVE to take 4 pills a day. There was no way around it. My doc had no problem with this, but I was just stating as an example.

Yeah, it seems over cautious to me too. I think in general my surgeon is a bit over cautious with things like this. I also take some surgery related and non-surgery related medication, and he has me crushing everything or emptying the capsules. That is pretty tough to stomach as well, but this liquid was just SO disgusting!

So is constipation something everyone has after surgery? Is it from protein shakes?

It's not necessarily the shakes, but rather the lack of fiber in our diets that usually causes the constipation.  By way of eliminating carbs, we are eliminating fiber as well... that's why I add fiber to my drinks.  I get the fiber that way, without adding extra carbs (one serving of benefiber is 4 grams of carbs, 3 of which are fiber)

Ahhh makes sense! So putting in your drink doesn't make the drink grainy or clumpy? Thanks Moonglo82! I absolutely love this website! I am so glad my Dr told me about it! Everyone on here is so great with info and support! Its made me feel very good about my choice to get this surgery. Now if only they would call me for my date!! So anxious

How exciting!  You'll be sleeved and moving right along before you know it! :)

The benefiber does not make the drinks grainy or clumpy... just shake or stir into your drink and it's like it's not there, if you're using the flavorless kind.  Same thing with the Miralax.

Keep coming!  This website was my favorite place to get information preop, so I know exactly what you mean, and I'd love to be able to follow your progress :)
