I did watch it.  I was in tears a few times too.  I also made my kids watch it.  The first one really hit home when they were talking about the Bogalusa Heart Study.  That is only about an hour from me.  It also worried me a ton bec I have a 6 year old that is overweight.  It's so hard for us because when he is home with us I measure all his food and he does tons of outdoor exercise/playing.  When he goes with his dad he gets to eat at buffets and his dad lets him gets seconds and thirds.  I am going to have his pediatrician give him orders for a diet so I can FORCE his father to take care of my baby better.

Back to topic though I really recommend everyone watching The Weight of the Nation.

Oh man, when that pretty girl Vivia was talking about food was her everything, her boyfriend, her vacation to the beach when she can't afford it, her reward, her punishment, I just busted out in tears b/c I understood just where she was coming from and my heart was broken for her.

Good idea about the doctor, it annoys me when other people don't respect the nutritional decisions I have made for my kids, I can't even imagine how frustrating it must be when it is his FATHER not making good decisions!

That interview with Vivia got to me, too! I highly recommend everyone watching this documentary! It really helped me understand why we are so damn overweight in the U.S.

You will be even LESS pleased when they finally get to the very small section on bariatric surgery, I was so upset I was yelling at the TV.

Ok, how wrong did they get it??

It wasn't so much how WRONG it was, but the doctor they had on said, and I quote "I think bariatric surgery should be reserved for the most obese and ill of all patients"

WHY??? Why should we WAIT until we have damage that can't be reversed? Why should we wait until we are so obese that we can't function? And they only had ONE patient that they followed and he was an older man that had the RNY and had severe complications (a rupture and strictures etc), so it wasn't really a very good representation of the WLS option. I have only watched the first two, so maybe they redeem themselves in the last episode, but I am just not thinking so.
