I'm pre op and my dietitian told me she doesn't think I am ready for surgery because I haven't been following the rules, so I am working on it very hard this month.  Today though, I made an impulse buy at work (I work at a grocery store) since I was in a hurry and didn't bring my dinner and bought a 3oz bag of potato chips.  I ate them and felt incredibly guilty the rest of the day, so I came home and didn't make my usual tortilla pizza (low carb tortilla with sauce, cheese, spinach, chicken sausage and feta) and just ate about 5oz of shrimp and then 3 cups of cherries.  My caloric intake for the day was then 1000.  If I feel I need something later, I might have some popcorn.  My dietitian hasn't had me restrict my calories yet, but I want to show them that I can lose weight, so I have been doing it myself.

Hi Alyssa,
Good for you gurl. Keep working hard because this journey is so worth it; you will see. It should get alot easier once you are sleeved since you will be eating so much less & getting satisfied. If you stick to plan & work your sleeve, your sleeve will work for you.
Good luck with everything!

I applaud your effort!  It is soo much harder before surgery.

You might consider changing your food choices more than your calories right now.  Try to think of your calories as a budget and protein as your mortgage - yo gotta buy that first.

For example, 3 cups of cherries - a lot of flavor, and sweetness, but little protein.  Made right, the tortilla pizza may not have been a bad choice.  Popcorn is one of my addictions so I generally avoid it right now, but it can be not so bad a choice if made right before surgery. Nif you pop it in oil use canola oil or another low fat oil.  Don't smother it in butter or a sweet topping like caramel or kettle corn salt ( which has sugar).

Focus your food choices on low carb dense proteins and non starchy vegetables or snacks.  You'll find yourself less hungry and better prepared for life after VSG.
