I will try this.  I used to bake with it, but no longer bake.  I am going to have to figure out what to add it to- yogurt maybe?  Thanks for the idea- I had forgotten about this one.
I add it the crustless egg, meat, cheese quiche thingies, yogurt, salad dressings, sprinkle on veggies and when I make anything in the crock pot with any of the cream of soups. I started hiding it in my husband's muffins too LOL.

What are your HDL/LDL numbers and Triglycerides?

My total sits right around 200 because my HDL is 80-90.

I haven't had my cholesterol checked since I started eating ground flax seed every day. I'll be interested to see what it is at my next check.

My A.D.D kicked in and I have no idea where I laid the results down at.  It was overall 217.  The doctor took the time to point out that the good cholesterol went up significantly (and that was a good thing), but I do not recall the breakdown.

On a very happy note my blood sugar hbaic clocked in well within the normal range :)  Now I just have to figure out how to get rid of the anemia and take care of the cholesterol.

I was recently shocked to see mine go up too.

I really never had much of a problem prior to VSG, so I was very surprised that it went up. I guess it makes sense though that our bodies are breaking down fats all the time for energy, so maybe that's why. It sounds like when we level our caloric intake and needs, thus stopping the fat break down process, they will level off?

I don't know if that is what people are implying, but that's what I got from it anyway. He He

Thanks for the posting
On my way!!!!!!

I already take fish oil, but I will try the cinnamon thing.  Maybe it will make my sweat smell better :0)

A couple things re: cholesterol...

Keep in mind that your good cholesterol will likely go up with a low carb diet - and even though your total cholesterol may be higher, your ratio of good to bad cholesterol will probably improve - and that is more important than the total number.

If your triglycerides are low, that is a very good thing, but because of the way cholesterol counts are calculated, low triglycerides result in a higher cholesterol count - which is probably higher than your actual number. It makes no sense, but one way to reduce your cholesterol count is to increase your triglycerides and that would be a very bad idea because you DEFINITELY want these to stay low.

A recent meta-analysis (synthesis of a number of peer-reviewed research studies) found NO relationship between saturated fat consumption (i.e. from animal products and some plant oils such as coconut) and cholesterol count. Your cholesterol is more closely related to the amount of carbohydrate, particularly simple carbs, that you eat, and transfats that you eat. Most of the cholesterol in your system is genetically determined.

Healthy fats, particularly Omega 3 fatty acids, such as those in avocado, olive oil, flax, chia seeds, salmon, mackerel, and some animal fats, will improve your good cholesterol and therefore your cholesterol ratio, but your overall count may rise. The ratio is more predictive of heart disease and is the more important number.

Margo..I believe that in NORMALs high sat fats do NOT impact cholesterol levels.oth .. In WLS...people that HAVE a gallbladder (what gallstones are primarily made of IS cholesterol)...during the rapid fat loss phase, when our livers are producing 2-3x more cholesterol than normal.....the message..sayin don't care about eatin full fats/sat fats is like handin a newly post op a loaded pistol and tellin em to shoot themselves.

 Carmelita-

I have a feeling this is a really stupid question, but I am going to ask it anyway.  Can you get gallstones if you don't have high cholesterol?  Is mine low enough to avoid that if that is the case?
