Ha! I'm with you! I LOVE water. The only other drinks I put in my mouth are black coffee, orange juice and yes, sweet tea (a bad Southern habit I've picked up but will obviously need to curtail). My husband sometimes would get me a half litre of Coke (my only real, extremely occasionl beverage sin) and I'd have about 12oz and the rest would go flat.

I think the anesthesia was still messing with my brain but I thought I almost had to drink diet drinks - like they were doing something for me other than making me kinda nauseous and not want to drink them any more. They are helpful for taking in protein powder since that's not really all that fab with plain water, but other than that...

I'm sipping on big ol' bottles of water all day long except for near when I need to "eat" something.

Some people just don't have the taste for it, I guess, or are so used to drinking diet sodas  or whatever with every meal... Dunno.

I am exactly one month out from my sleeve.  I just got released from Hospital where I was admitted overnight for dehydration.  Had an episode of vomiting that caused my sleeve to swell again.  Before I could drink 64 oz of water with no problem.  Now I have to be more conscious of it.  I never thought of the Ph in water, I use Brita bottles with filters.  I am also experimenting with water tempatures. Green tea with ginger also helps.  People get your fluids in.  I have the IV scars that is a testimony to the consequences.  My doctors told me that this happens, but you don't want it to.

I've gotten sick from water my whole life. I drank it but I got nauesated everytime. Post-op (11 days now ) I haven't even tried plain water because after 30 years of feeling like I was going to puke after drinking it I'm not getting near it yet.

Pre op my version of water was a regular Pepsi with a ton of ice. I drank that all day long.
I weaned off soda during my 6 month pre op period.

I never liked plain water.
Now I use flavoring packets, the store brand crystal lite. I don't like the real CL though . I have a 32oz water bottle and I fill it 2-3x a day. Always 2. 3 when it's hot or I workout. It's amazing but I have to have it.

It did take time for me to get 64 oz in. Like maybe 6 weeks out.

i loved water before and I still love it after.  I do get tired of it every now and then but some crystal light will take care of that for me.  I URGE everyone to drink as much as possible and then some.  I developed kidney stones about 6 weeks post op from not drinking enough (I was getting 64 ounces but for me that's not enough)  I'm up to 90+ oz per day and you know what that means??? Whew - must stay close to the ladies room to put it nicely but no more stones (knock on all the wood)

I wanna take a stab at this. Has anyone, that is having problems drinking plain water, ever try Figi water or any of the other Artesian waters, with calcium and minerals? Are you drinking tap-water or spring water? If its "tap", maybe the issue is not the water, but the chlorine and/or flouride. Remember, we must drink water as well as other fluids. Adding the flavored stuff with artificail sweetners to water is "other fluids". Water is water. Water is used to flush the "other fluids" out of the kidneys. So, if you want to fool yourself and believe you're getting your recommended amount of water in, even though you add "taste" to it, you're fooling yourself. It's your kidneys, flush them as you see fit.
 I'm just sayin.....

I am pre op..perpetual pre op or so it seems...I am not a big water or any liquids drinker except for when I am at the gym. There I go through 64 oz or even more in 2 hrs. And I have a cup of tea after supper, a coffee in the morning and that is pretty much it for liquids. No thirst ever. I have never been dehydrated and wouldn't want to start now!

I asked one of the surgeons I consulted if the 64 oz is a magic obligatory number and he said no. He said I should drink as much post op as I do pre op. The amount each of us needs varies depending on size, height, muscle mass, and a number of other matters.

Because post op you consume less food, dramatically less in the first weeks, you won't get the liquid from food either so I can see a need for an increased liquid consumption early out. But I know I will burst if I drink 64 oz of clear liquids or water every day! And even now pre op I never drink with my meals...never have. I guess that will help.

Interesting post and the issue with PH and flavours, teas etc.

Water does not nauseate me but I guess I am like a camel...don't need that much.
