Feel horrible today - CPAP

Last night a massive storm came from Ohio and down across Maryland and slammed us hard.  Wind gusts were over 80 mph .. trees down everywhere .. and I think I read 1.3 million people lost power.

It was off all night and didn't come back on till about 1 pm today.

For 14 years I've worn my CPAP religiously.  I can't stand the thought of knowing I don't breath when I sleep and how awful I feel the next day when I don't wear it.  It's only been a few times in all these years I've gone without it and those were during a hurricane that knocked out our power for 3 or 4 days and last night.

I slept all night and most of today before having to come into work for my night shift.  I feel like I haven't slept at all.  Apparently, loosing 106 lbs isn't enough to resolve my sleep apnea.  It may never go away.  Plenty of skinny people suffer with it as well.

I don't understand for the life of me how people can willingly go without their CPAP machine and feel so badly the next day (or everyday for those that never wear it) but I know I'm suffering because of it.  Not likely to get any sleep at work.  Saturday night, 100+ degrees in the big city .. uggg.  Help!!!

I urge everyone that has nightmares, hurts their face or whatever reason you have to not use this device to please reconsider.  There are masks that are more comfortable then others and it really doesn't take long to get used to having it on.  If we have enough ***** to have 85% of our stomachs removed to treat a health issue like our weight then please get informed about sleep apnea and the long term dangers of it as well if left untreated.

I understand how you feel - I cannot sleep without my BiPap - been using it for 8 years.  Not worth feeling so crappy to go without it - I can't even nap without it.
Hope you feel better when you get to use ti again.

And yes - everyone out there who needs it and doesn't use it - get on it - it is so worth it.

It is funny that you posted about this.  I am new to the forum and just introduced myself and stated that I am going for my 2nd sleep study as apparently the 1st one I had last sunday revealed I have sleep apena.  I am very upset about this and am nervous about going back tommorow night to be hooked up to the cpap machine.

Reading your above post makes me feel less nervous and a little excited about getting a good night sleep!  Wondering if I will feel a difference right away in the morning?  My husband jokes with me saying maybe with a good nights sleep I won't be so B****Y!!  LOL

Thank you for your post and hopefull you have electricity tonight for your sleep.

I noticed a miraculous difference after wearing my CPAP for 4 hours during the split sleep study.  I had never in my life woke up in the morning and actually felt awake.  Before CPAP, it used to take me hours to wake up, and even then I was always exhausted and never had energy.

My life was totally changed by my sleep apnea diagnosis, and I love my CPAP.

Sorry you had a rough night and lost power!  Too hot for that mess - so glad ours stayed on even though it's out all around us!

I've seen mouth pieces advertised to help sleep apnea - I wonder if it would be good for you to have one for this type of situation...  this is the address for one:   http://www.snorerx.com

Hope tomorrow is better for you!

It is such a crappy feeling to not have slept well and then have to go to work. After having lost 83+ pounds, I still wear my CPAP, although the doctor is trying me out at a lesser pressure. Be careful working tonight and get some good sleep tomorrow!

Hi Kevin,

I totally agree with you - I rarely ever sleep without my CPAP.  I realize that it may never go away, even with weight loss.  I too would encourage anyone who needs it to try out the newere machines.  My current CPAP is a vast improvement over the first one I had.  The first one made my ears ache and it was quite loud.  With the new machine I sleep like a baby and can wear it for 9-10 hours without it bothering my ears.

Every time I see my neurologist to check in on my apnea, he reads my monthly readout and tells me I'm his best patient, because I use my cpap 100%. I find that amazing, because I cannot imagine, now that I understand I was suffocating in my sleep, sleeping without it.

Do you have a friend nearby you can stay with when the power goes out? My dad has apnea, too, and he comes to stay with me when their power goes out. Please don't sleep without it... your health is too important, and the possibility of stroke is too great. Be well!

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.  It's time to try something new!
