I'm curious when others were cleared to swim in a public pool post-op?  It's about 106 degrees here today and I would love to get into a pool (low key of ourse, nothing strenuous)!  I'm waiting to hear back from my dr to see if I can take the plunge.

When I went for my 2week check up, I was told to wait an additional 10 days before getting in the pool. So roughly 3 weeks out should be ok.

Hi Blueskies,

Not sure I'm typical because I had an umbilical hernia repair at the same time as the VSG, but my surgeon said NO baths, no swimming, no pools, lakes, oceans, etc for 2 months.  Keeping in mind that this has been the HOTTEST freakin' summer on record, I'm NOT a happy camper about that!  I look out my home office window at see my crystal clear pool inviting me in and I have to say no.  I see him for my 4 weeks check-up in two weeks.  I plan on doing some serious begging then LOL

Let us know what you doctor said!

SAME time I was cleared to take baths,,, 3 weeks. However, people are asking about swimming... Are most of us actually swimming or cooling off in the water? There is a difference. Swimming is using muscles, cooling of is just relaxing...............

I know I'm not ready for real swimming yet.  I just want to get in a pool to cool off and be with my husband and kids - definitely nothing that would hurt my healing body.

Thanks for all the input thus far!

I didn't had a date, I just had to wait for my insidious to be scabbed over. Just don't over do it, but have a blast getting in the pool and work it.

We had ours the same day and I called Monday and asked when I could get in the pool.....not real swimming, just cooling off and such, and was told that was fine now since the staples were out and stitches should be dissolved by now.
