Surgeon Weight Goal vs Your Weight Goal!!!
Please help me. Thanks Kerry
So...I made my own goal weight and focused on that. I started at 261 lbs so my first goal was to be 161. I thought losing 100 lbs would be impossible...it's not :) When I got there, I reevaluated, knew I could stand to lose some more, and moved my goal down to 143. After I met that goal, I decided to make my FINAL goal 130 so that I would have some bounce around room.
I am now at 134 and look pretty good, if I say so myself!!! At every postop visit, my surgeon has never again mentioned 118 lbs--just tells me that I am the poster child for VSG and that I exceeded all of his expectations

Moral of this story: set your own goal. It helps to stay on track if you are working towards a goal. When you get to that goal, reevaluate: how do you feel, look, etc?? And then revise from there. You're the one who's gonna be living in that body so pick an attainable, reasonable and healthy goal.
Good luck!
Marie

Three and half years ago I got sleeved at 540 pounds. My surgeon told me 300 pounds would be a good result for me. I know didn't sound that ambitious on his part but they had only been doing the sleeve for about a year as a stand alone operation at the time I had mine done. I am now 235 and have lost 80% of my EBW accoding to BMI standards. He never really set a goal for me like they do with evryone in my group. They like to see there bypass people lose 70-80% of excess body weight and the lap band & sleeve folks lose 50-70%. They have always focused more on making you healthier getting rid of comorbidities and having a good quality of life.
I guess I'm saying (sorry I get long winded) try not to get to hung up on numbers or a goal weight this early out before surgery. Wait to see where it takes you, the surgery will do most of the work. Towards the end of your weight loss plastics will be a consideration, I had 15 pounds removed myself and maybe have another ten or so but need to lose another 20 pounds at least before I consider anymore. That may be a consideration for you as well to reach your goal at some point.
I know it seems like I focus on numbers and I do, I wish I didn't it drives me crazy some days but also helps to keep me focused at times with my self diagnosed OCD. I'm slowly learning to enjoy life now that I have lost 305 pounds and want to focus more on maintaining this weight loss. Try and focus more on how you feel and not a number is what I'm saying. You'll know when you get there!
I've lost enough hair from this experience and not just from the surgery.

You are my hero. You have done amazing and should be so proud. I hear you on the numbers game, it's really hard not to focus on that. The VSG is an amazing tool and I have no doubt in it's success, best decision I ever made.
