Can you help a new VSG having problems?
Hi, doing well thanks! And you?
My friend is currently computerless! So am continuing on her behalf!
Surgeon said no liquid calories so therefore no protein shakes, on his instructions she should avoid all slider foods. She has in fact tried things like natural Greek yogurt and protein shakes but the sugars make her react - she is definitley NOT eating sugary foods as such. Even milk is causing this reaction, whether it be dumping or HGR. Can you recommend some soft but more solid protein
I really don't think she is pushing anything! Her surgeon wouldn't tell her the "correct" amount to eat, two soft boiled eggs, eaten slowly and carefully made her sick.
She is doing everything her doc has told her! But just worried that this is how it is going to be! Especially the hunger! I can't help as being banded seesm to be very different
Thanks for your help!
Highest 290, Banded - 248 Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.
Happily banded since May 2006. Regain of 28lbs 2013-14. ALL GONE!
But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,
Nope, honestly they are nothing alike at all. She has a very tiny tummy, and at less then two months out all her nerve endings in the stomach might not be functioning the way they are supposed to so getting a "full signal" is not going to be a good way to know when she is done eating because of that. Measure and weigh her foods, and always make sure the protien goes into the stomach before any and all carbs (complex or simple), this will slow the food going into the intestines which will limit effects of the rapid gastic emptying and soften those RH symptoms she is having.
I had the RH for the first two months but was able to control it by limiting my carb intake (including fruits, veggies and milk ), and now I only have it if I eat something high in simple carbs on an empty stomach.

Kate,
Dr. Cirangle has his post-op diet instructions online. Ask someone here to post a link for you. His patients seem to be very successful.
As time goes on with the sleeve, we can eat more - two eggs this early out would be really heavy on the stomach and probably not possible. All of this reactional (don't know if that's a word) stuff that she is feeling will subside. I personally do not have any hunger at all (knock on wood). It is weird, but I was like that with the band when I had a fill. That unfortunately does not stop my will to eat. I'm nutso when it comes to food. I have (thank God) no reflux and could probably eat and drink laying down - that difference from the band with a fill discourages me from losing more weight. When I had the band, I knew I had to stop eating quite some time before relaxing in the bed. The sleeve is real easy - for me and having experienced the band it would probably be easy for any ex bandsters as we are used to having little stomachs and doing the protein, veggies/fruits, then if there is room . . . carbs. We already follow the rules. Probably more different for virgin WLS.
Best,
Leila

... about the protein shakes.. there's likely no way she can possibly hit protein goals this early out without them. Not saying she should disregard her instructions, but some common sense needs to be used (not her, surgeon that is..) and using shakes for many of us, for at least the first several months is the only way we stay healthy as our capacity is so small. She should consider questioning this particular bit of instruction.
Wow, you are all being amazing. Too many to answer individually! But many thanks! I am personally finding it very interesting as well!
