Hunger question

I'm 5 days shy of being 1 month post op and so far doing well. I'm down 24 pounds and am feeling pretty much back to normal. The only thing is, I'm NEVER hungry. Is this going to change? I try to have at least 1 good protein filled snack a day but its hard because I'm just not hungry or interested in food.

I am almost 2 months out and I have been having the same issue. I have to remind myself to eat something. There are days when the thought of food makes my head nausous. Now if I do skip a meal then my tummy starts to yell at me later on telling me I have to eat.

Everyone is different, of course, but at 4 months out I do get hungry. The really great thing is that it isn't the raging, grinding, shaking hunger I used to have. It's a "hungry - oh, that small dish of yogurt and all bran looks good. Yup, that was plenty. " It's a whole new wonderful life.

Who knew I'd ever be totally satisfied with 1/2 a banana or a baby bel and a couple of apple slices?

Shakes aren't nearly as satisfying. They make me not hungry, but don't give that, physical sensation of happyfull. 1/3-1/2 cup of actual food with protein and fibre is just about perfect.

Perfectly normal.  And as Kelly-Anne said above, yes, it will probably change but will be a very different hunger sensation that you've been used to.  That's how it is for me too.  It is wonderful to not be driven by hunger.  And I for one am hoping that it stays that way ...

I do like shakes and they make me feel full-ish -- that, and they still take me a good half hour to drink a whole one.  I try to do it slowly on purpose.

The folks at my program told me this was going to be my full time job in the beginning.  And it was.  So you still have to work at it like it is a full time job.

What you're feeling now is very normal. I, too, had to make myself eat for the first two months. It was such a wonderful change of pace for me.

For most of us hunger returns in some mild form between 4 months and 6 months post surgery. For me it was around 4 months out. Now at almost a year out I do get hungry, but it's not the same type of hunger I had pre VSG. It is a tame and gentle hunger and a hunger that is never an "emergency".

Yes it is normal. I am one month post op and feeling the same. I forget to eat. I actually purchased a timer to time my eating times. I have a huge problem with nausea so that on top of no hunger I am forcing myself to eat.

I am only two weeks post op and also not physically hungry but the thought of food is appealing I have to admit. I stick to plan and for the most part I am satisfied with very little at this stage. I can see my hunger coming back though. I kind of feel it will. Hopefully it will be tame and gentle like Kairk's and hopefully with a 1/3 cup of good quality protein I will be happy like Kelly-Anne. That is part of the specifications of the tool we purchased (VSG) to help us lose weight....
