How do you do it?
I am just curious to know how everyone is sticking to the golden rule of keeping the carb count below 40grams??? I log everything into MFP and everyday I am good calorie wise but the carbs are over 50 sometimes 60 & I am really not eating very much at all! Just curious to see what foods these awesome people consume on a day to day basis that actually are able to keep it under 40....please share!
I don't keep my carbs that low in maintenance, but while I was losing, I did stick to a strict under forty rule. I usually had an egg for breakfast, something like shrimp ****tail or soup for lunch and 2-3 ounces of protein with low carb veggies for dinner. If I wanted something in between meals, I often had some of my soup, which is under 3 carbs per cup.
My diet mainly consists of meats, eggs, lowfat cheese, protein shakes & the other items I've listed above.
I sometimes consume things that are around 12 carb grams per serving but I still manage to stay between 20-40 grams of carbs daily.

I eat only protein and a few veggies. I am able to eat a bit more lately, so after protein hits the mark I will increase veggies. This will bring my carbs up somewhat. I use a few carbs on condiments or ingredients in a protein recipe I am making - but i always look for the lowest calories and carbs for those items.
A few days ago I stopped using protein shakes (doc said okay when I explained how I am eating and getting my protein) so now I have to work really hard to make sure I am ok without them. I care a lot about my health so if my protein slips I have to drink them again - which I definitely don't want to do!
Thanks for saying that - I am in the pureed stage and I can't seem to stay under 40 gms carbs, especially if I have to supplement with a protein drink. Wondered what I am doing wrong since I creep up to 60 gms some days. So looking forward to regular food - even though i have to wait until post op day 45 - 20 more days - woo hoo!!!
I don't know if this is helpful, or if anyone else has ever heard of it before, but during one of my many previous weight-loss attempts, the dietitian emphasized that for every gram of fiber consumed, we could subtract one gram of carbs. Therefore, if beans are a protein source, their carbs don't count as high because of their high fiber content.
