Juicing
I think it's more of a maintenance tool with occasional use........
I would think the limited amount of veggies for WL would be better to consume the whole fibrous component of the vegetable also.
Our stomach/sleeve empties faster than a stock stomach. Courser veggies can stay in your sleeve longer for increased duration of satiety.
If you don't care about calories, carbs or satiation.....than it might be fine.

I bought a Ninja so I could juice, but don't like what it cranks out :( With that said though, where are you at with your weight loss process? What types of veggies are we talking, and what would the stats look like on a typical drink you are referring to? If you are pounding back 150 cals for the 8 ounces I would be a little leery. If, on the other hand, you can spare the calorie count in your daily plan and the carbs are well managed (Note: I am not a low carber) then I think the nutrients could be very beneficial.

First few months post op I tried to keep it under 40 carbs, but had problems with low blood sugar. I switched to eating 6 times a day and alternating 15 net carbs and 30 net carbs. Not too many carbs at once, which can spike insulin and put you in a nasty carb craving cycle. You have to find a path that works for you- this did for me, but for many others they stay put at 40 or below. Consult your team and tap into that network for best results (in my humble opinion).

Juicing is amazing and i am a true believer that it can help heal your body. it made me feel great and it helped me keep my skin clear as I have psoriasis.
Now my doctor did recommend i stay away from veggies for about the first 3 months after surgery. Gotta let your gut heal and not make it work so much for a while. i was also told to first transition to cooked veggies and to slowly venture into raw veggies.
I am about to hit the 6 month out mark and i have been trying some juices here and there to boost up my veggie intake.
but remember to take it easy and to not try too many different juices too close together.
Hey Keith,
First, I am NOT slamming you here, at all, BUT I am going to get on my soap box, so.......
I would not encourage you to "juice" during weight loss. Reasons:
1. Most of us got to obese with the aid of liquid calories in some form. That is the main reason so many plans do not allow the ingestion of liquid calories once you can tolerate food (other than the required protein drinks some plans call for.) Most WLS experts agree that the first months/year after WLS is the most beneficial time to build new habits.
2. Most plans call for a vitamin protocol to ensure that patients get adequate nutrition. There really is no way for those of us early out to meet our nutritional needs without supplementation. That's why the vitamin and mineral supplementation is prescribed.
3. Juicing is a fad. What many of us strive to do after WLS is re-learn how to eat. It's hard. I still want to eat like crap sometimes, but I know it is my job to eat mindfully and healthily as often as possible. To eat that way is my goal each and every day. Drinking vegetables doesn't seem like a clean, wholesome approach to food to me (and that is just my opinion). I would encourage you to eat whole veggies with the fiber content still intact. Eating vegetables that way will also help with your digestion, your feelings of satiety, and, in plain speak, help in the bathroom department!
The biggest thing for me after WLS has been learning how to eat again like a healthy, thin person. I am not perfect, but I do my level best everyday to maintain my weight and not get fat again. For me juicing would not have worked during WL. Maybe now in maintenance, but I'm still not sure I would go that route.
Again, just my opinion and no offense intended!
Keith - you just posted today that you had weight gain and that it might be attributed to lack of water. Why are you thinking about "replacing" a glass of water with juice when you already aren't getting enough water?
Give us a day in you diet so we can see what you are concerned about. Maybe we can help find a more productive way of incorporating real veggies into your diet.
You are not that far out from surgery. What are your doctors goals for you right now?
IMO, by the sounds of it, you need to be more worried about getting in enough water every day.
