Almost perfect lunch today

I was in a hurry this morning so I didn't have time to prepare a lunch or snacks like I do. I literally grabbed my water, tossed some vitamins and fiber gummies in my mouth and ran out the door. On my way to work I ran into a grocery and grabbed a Lean Cuisine Beef Tips and Broccoli. It is about 7 oz so I couldn't finish the whole thing but ate quite a bit of it. It has 160 calories, 12 g of carbs ( a bit high for my taste but I pulled all the meat out of the gravy and drained it all off so I didn't eat any of the carb dense stuff so not sure how to count it but it wasn't 12, 5 grams of fat and 16 grams of protein. So except for the gravy, it is a pretty good lunch for something in a hurry. I am going to look at the list of lean cuisine products and compile a list (I will post it here later) of dishes I think will fit for my plan.

Anyone else have any that they use in a pinch?

I keep a stash of barigoodfood.com frozen meals in my freezer. Lean Cuisines have a lot of preservatives and stuff. I try to eat as clean as I can (although, not always possible, especially when I'm grabbing whatever - which is why I started ordering from them - it's a frozen meal, low carb, low fat, high protein and all natural). Not cheap, but worth it for me, especially because I'll order $200 at a time and keep it in the deep freeze.

Totally getting those! Thanks so much for the suggestion. I agree I try to eat as clean as possible. I just joined an organic food co-op. This week I didn't get to cook on Sunday like I usually do and have been scrambling for something for lunch every day. The Lean Cuisine was just for in a pinch.

Oh, I know. And no judgment at all. Hell, last weekend I had a really big chocolate chip cookie because I didn't plan my day right and was stressed out (this is why I have a therapist LOL).

Yes, we get a weekly delivery of organic veggies too. LOVE it, never know what will be in there and we've learned some cool things about veggies - we make the kids look up recipes for the things we're not sure or that we want something different. It helps them learn about food too. I also have a book (well, a door stop) called The World's Healthiest Foods or something like that that we look stuff up in. It's really enlightening when you start looking at foods and processing.

But yeah, wasn't judging AT ALL, just giving you another choice. I recalled from reading that you try to avoid a lot of that crap too. It's much cheaper. Unfortunately, it's cheaper for a reason. Sigh.

My husband still wants to kill me when he sees the bill for the grass fed beef. LOL

And that's why I barter for my veggies (in the summer), beef, eggs, honey, goat cheese and milk and maple syrup (all organic). I can't imagine feeding all six of us as healthy as I do and actually having to pay for it, we would go broke LOL

I know! I wish I could find a good barter here in Austin :/ I used to barter with a veggie person and I did her books, but she had to close her business. That was nice (I'm a bookkeeper).

But yeah, we can't do ALL organic, but we do the best we can. Hubby is a teacher, they don't make the big bucks. LOL

I am just lucky in where I live, we are in a residential development that is surrounded on all sides by farms (even have alpacas on one, I wish I knew how to spin yarn LOL). I bake and can, breads, cookies, jams, jellies, soup, stock etc. to trade, I grow my own blueberries, raspberries and grapes, although this coming year I am going to be in trouble because all my bushes where destroyed by Sandy and the following Nor'Easter, I have no idea how many of them are going to come back and how many are not going to make it! My hot item this time of year is Gingerbread popcorn, believe it or not :)

Your therapists bakes you chocolate chip cookies when you are stressed? I need a new therapist.

I actually don't like the taste of grass fed beef but I have been trying to buy it as often as I can lately. I think its much drier and less taste than the hormone and antibiotic infested kind.

Yeah, we don't use it exclusively (the cost) but it is different for sure. Chicken is the worst and we can get a decent price for hormone free one at Costco, not as good as the farm kind, I guess, but again... the cost... and my 12 year old son is going to eat me out of house and home. The kid NEVER stops eating.

LOL! Oh, now THAT is the therapist I want. LOL!
